About The Position

Bristol Myers Squibb is reimagining the future of cell therapy and is seeking a Senior Manager, Cell Therapy Manufacturing to support the clinical and commercial operations of their facility in Devens, MA. This role is responsible for overseeing manufacturing teams that produce both clinical and commercial product, with shifts covering 24/7 operations. The Senior Manager will ensure adherence to Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) in all unit operations, including media preparation, cell selection, cell processing, and product fill. The position emphasizes building a strong team, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement, and ensuring operational readiness for inspections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline, or equivalent in work experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles required.
  • Ability to work in the vicinity of strong magnets.
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience within pharmaceutical or a similarly regulated industry.
  • 6+ years supervising staff in a management role.

  • Cleanroom garments and personal protective equipment will be required in designated areas which cover head, parts of the face, core body, and legs/feet.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as manufacturing functional area owner and manages commercial and clinical manufacturing teams and areas.
  • Hires, mentors, and develops exceptional people, conducting performance reviews and identifying opportunities for career growth.
  • Champions a culture of exceptional teamwork and communication across the organization.
  • Ensures personnel have and maintain the appropriate level of training necessary for CAR-T GMP manufacturing in a multi-product commercial facility.
  • Builds effective cross-functional relationships with Quality, Supply Chain, MS&T, EHS and F&E.
  • Ensures a culture that embraces safety in the work environment and the safety of patients by compliance with company procedures, policies, and cGMP requirements.
  • Plans for and executes commercial and clinical operations for a licensed CAR-T product in the Devens CTF Manufacturing Plant.
  • Establishes department goals, tracks and reports KPIs, and drives a culture of continuous improvement through innovation and implementing lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Authors, reviews, and approves documents, including standard operating procedures, batch records, material specifications, training materials, and validation protocols/reports.
  • Develops and communicates project goals, strategy, and timelines with manufacturing management.
  • Implements and operates manufacturing systems that are technically sound, promote effective and efficient operations, and comply with cGMP requirements.
  • Ensures schedules for personnel, facility, equipment, materials, and documents are established and maintained to support the expected capacity of the facility for multiple CAR-T products.
  • Identifies and mitigates risks in manufacturing operations that could negatively impact the delivery of safe and effective therapies to patients.
  • Champions inspection readiness efforts and initiatives for Right First-Time manufacturing.
  • Establishes team policies, organizational structure, shift structure, and career ladders for Associates, Team Leaders, Supervisors, and Managers.
