Senior Maintenance Manager

Blount Fine Foods•Fall River, MA

About The Position

The Senior Maintenance Manager is the plant reliability leader and daily execution owner for maintenance at Blount Fine Foods’ Fall River food manufacturing facility. The role combines strategic asset-management leadership with visible, hands-on floor leadership. The manager establishes a CMMS-centered system for identifying, prioritizing, planning, scheduling, executing, closing out, analyzing, and continually improving maintenance work, while supporting production readiness, breakdown response, shift operations, and cross-functional problem solving. The position is accountable for building a capable team and repeatable reliability systems that reduce recurring failures, improve planned-work execution, protect food and employee safety, and increase productive pounds per scheduled day. The role owns plant maintenance work management, including CMMS governance, work-order standards, weekly scheduling, risk-based backlog management, and performance dashboards. It leads daily plant execution and recovery, develops asset reliability plans, eliminates chronic losses through structured root-cause analysis, and optimizes preventive and predictive maintenance. The manager also develops team capability, manages spare parts and vendor performance, and oversees maintenance operating and capital budgets. The role requires balancing emergency response with protection of the planned schedule and ensuring that significant repairs are validated under production-like conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Maintenance Management, or a related field; a technical or trade-school credential with substantial relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eight or more years of progressive maintenance, reliability, or engineering experience in a 24/7 manufacturing environment, including significant people-leadership responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a CMMS/EAM work-management system, including asset hierarchy, work-order workflow, PMs, planning and scheduling, failure coding, backlog, materials, and reporting.
  • Experience leading maintenance in food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, CPG, or another regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and controls troubleshooting literacy, with ability to lead technical teams across fillers, conveyors, packaging, pumps, motors, gearboxes, pneumatics, hydraulics, instrumentation, and PLC-controlled systems.
  • Experience applying root-cause analysis, PM optimization, condition-based maintenance, spare-parts criticality, contractor management, budgeting, and capital planning.

Nice To Haves

  • CMRP, CRL, PMP, PE, electrician, refrigeration, controls, or related professional certification.
  • Experience with high-speed food packaging, spiral chilling or freezing, aseptic or hygienic process equipment, refrigeration and utility systems, coding and labeling, and sanitary design.
  • Experience implementing or materially improving CMMS use, planner/scheduler effectiveness, storeroom controls, predictive-maintenance routes, and reliability dashboards.
  • Lean, TPM, RCM, FMEA, A3, 5-Why, Six Sigma, or similar continuous-improvement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own the plant maintenance workflow from request screening and priority assignment through planning, scheduling, execution, technical closeout, failure coding, data capture, and effectiveness follow-up.
  • Establish and enforce work-order standards, including asset hierarchy, failure mode, production impact, safety and food-safety risk, labor, parts, permits, procedures, post-work checks, and closeout details.
  • Lead weekly maintenance scheduling with Operations, Planning, Sanitation, FSQA, and Engineering; maintain a frozen weekly schedule, emergency-work rules, and plan-versus-actual reviews.
  • Build and manage a risk-based maintenance backlog using asset criticality, production loss, safety and food-safety risks, recurrence, labor and parts availability, and shutdown requirements.
  • Develop maintenance performance dashboards and ensure CMMS records are maintained for equipment history, bills of materials, job plans, procedures, technical documents, calibration records, critical spares, warranties, and recurring work.
  • Conduct early-morning reviews of overnight events, staffing, failures, PM results, startup readiness, safety and food-safety risks, parts constraints, and the production plan.
  • Maintain visible floor presence across shifts, support urgent equipment failures, verify startup and post-repair readiness, and remove maintenance execution barriers.
  • Assign an accountable maintenance owner to plant-critical events and ensure containment, recovery, permanent corrective action, and verification are addressed.
  • Coordinate equipment-failure response while protecting planned work and escalating resource conflicts; provide daily and weekly updates on failures, impacts, actions, owners, due dates, and closure evidence.
  • Require production-like testing and operator acceptance after major maintenance, including validation of operating conditions, interfaces, controls, safety devices, and quality checks.
  • Build asset-level reliability plans for recurring plant losses and use downtime, work-order, condition-monitoring, quality, waste, and production data to identify and rank bad actors.
  • Lead structured root-cause analysis for significant and recurring failures and convert findings into maintenance, operating, training, spares, design, and controls improvements.
  • Develop condition-based maintenance where justified, including vibration, oil analysis, thermography, temperature trends, alignment, wear, lubrication, electrical condition, and health controls.
  • Partner with Engineering on design corrections, obsolescence, lifecycle risk, upgrades, control reliability, sanitation-compatible design, and asset replacement strategy.
  • Optimize preventive-maintenance frequency and task content using failure history, OEM guidance, criticality, operating context, inspection findings, and technician feedback.
  • Create standard job plans and coordinate rotating maintenance windows; publish weekly, monthly, and quarterly shutdown calendars and audit PM quality in the field.
  • Ensure calibration and inspection programs for critical devices are risk-based, documented, scheduled, and aligned with FSQA requirements.
  • Lead maintenance supervisors, planners, technicians, electricians, controls resources, utilities or refrigeration support, and contractors through clear roles, daily direction, coaching, and accountability.
  • Develop shift-by-shift skills matrices, qualification plans, and cross-training to improve technical coverage and reduce single-point knowledge risks.
  • Coordinate OEM and cross-site knowledge transfer, ensuring employees participate, document learning, and demonstrate capability after vendor work.
  • Create staffing and on-call models that support the operating schedule without overreliance on a small number of people or repetitive weekend coverage.
  • Establish asset bills of materials and critical-spares levels; manage parts classifications, inventory controls, reorder levels, cycle counts, and obsolete-parts controls.
  • Manage OEM and contractor performance through defined scopes, parts readiness, acceptance criteria, service reports, action closure, and knowledge transfer.
  • Build and manage maintenance operating and capital budgets; assess repair-versus-replace decisions, obtain competitive bids, and track costs and avoided-loss value.
