This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Requirements

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • Minimum of 15 years in a manufacturing working hands on environment
  • Minimum of 10 years in CNC programming in NX, Master Cam, etc.
  • Minimum of 5 years in working with multi axis machines
  • Minimum of 5 years working with hardened metals
  • Minimum of 5 years in a lead position of skilled workforce.
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Extensive experience with Okuma or other CNC controls
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009 standard.
  • Outside processing knowledge (heat treat, plating, coating, grinding, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively with a strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast-paced dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities.
  • Basic computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of various skills across large geographic distances.
  • A continuous improvement mindset. Our job is never complete; we are always optimizing.
  • Work off-shift, extended hours, overtime, and weekends if/when necessary.
  • Intense curiosity for understanding the details of our business and how to optimize it.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an aerospace environment
  • Experience machining nickel-based stainless-steel alloys, copper, titanium
  • Tooling and fixture design
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teams of various skill levels.

Responsibilities

  • Programming, setting up, and operating 2, 3, and 5-axis lathes and mills, EDMs, manual machines, and supporting equipment
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, models, and descriptions
  • Machining new or modifying existing tight-tolerance and high-value parts while balancing the needs for both speed and quality
  • Ensure product quality and conformance to engineering specifications.
  • Implement and refine new manufacturing processes
  • Work with engineering to document and standardize production processes
  • Collaborate with engineering to develop production-ready manufacturing approaches
  • Work directly with engineers to provide Design for Manufacturability (DfM) feedback
  • Actively participating in finding solutions with engineers that meet design and schedule requirements
  • Providing excellent customer service to all current and potential customers within Blue Origin
  • Cradle-to-grave job planning and execution including machine and material selection, tooling design, part programming using CAM software, machining and inspecting parts, and communicating directly with customers
  • Assisting with the identification and purchase of job-specific and general shop supplies, tools, and machinery
  • Working both independently and collaboratively within a team of individual contributors to enable every member to succeed in their respective tasks
  • Assist with transition from development to production by working alongside engineering to successfully transition the product
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety and efficiency
  • Other duties as assigned or otherwise beneficial to fulfilling the mission and vision.
