About The Position

AlpHa Measurement Solutions is seeking a Senior Machinist/Programmer to perform all tasks involved in the production of the company’s machined sub-assemblies and/or machined final products. This includes the programming and operation of CNC machines such as Mazak multi-spindle, Omni gang tool machines, and Haas mills for manufacturing parts from various grades of metal and plastic. The role involves assisting others with running created programs, performing QC inspection of finished parts, and mentoring junior machinists. The position is based in Houston, Texas, and reports directly to the Machine Shop Manager.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred
Post-secondary certificates awarded for technical CNC training completed after high school
Previous production machining experience
Equipment selection – determining the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job
Quality control analysis – conducting tests and inspections of products to evaluate quality and/or machine performance
Programming – writing and modifying computer programs to create or optimize CNC machine programs in both Mazatrol and G-code; use of CAD/CAM software
Must be able to routinely lift 25 pounds
Must be able to work in a dynamic environment
Strong problem solving and critical thinking capabilities
Must be conversant in English for safe and effective performance of the job
Must be eligible to work in the US

Nice To Haves

Experience with Mazak multi-spindle machines
Experience with Omni gang tool machines
Experience with Haas mills

Responsibilities

Ensure a safe work environment, environmental compliance, and implement best practices in production processes.
Program, set up, and operate computer-controlled machines.
Build set-up sheets to more efficiently run programs in the future.
Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished workpiece dimensions, or numerical control sequences.
Leverage CAD/CAM as appropriate.
Transfer commands from computers to CNC machine modules using a computer network, jump drives, or other media.
Modify programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs per file storage conventions.
Maintain machines and replace broken or worn machine tools.
Measure dimensions and finishes of completed workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
Set up future jobs while machines are operating current jobs.
Clean machines, tooling, and parts using solvents/solutions and rags.
Act as a mentor and coach to develop junior machinists.
Sponsor and support 5S events, continuous improvement projects, and efficiency improvements.
Perform other duties as required and assigned.
