About The Position

The School of Health (SOH) is seeking a Senior Lecturer to contribute significantly to teaching, research, and academic leadership within the Physiotherapy Discipline. This role involves delivering high-quality teaching and learning across undergraduate health programs, including curriculum development, course coordination, student supervision, and teaching across campuses, primarily at Sippy Downs. The position also requires active engagement in research aligned with contemporary health priorities, contributing to the School’s broader research agenda. The Senior Lecturer will provide academic leadership in the development and continuous improvement of innovative, contemporary curriculum in collaboration with the Head of Discipline and clinical partners. A key aspect of the role is establishing and maintaining strong clinical relationships that support curriculum design and review, enhance student readiness for clinical practice, and expand work-integrated learning opportunities. The role also includes supervising honours and postgraduate research students in physiotherapy, fostering strong industry collaboration and impactful research outcomes.

Requirements

  • Unrestricted current registration to practice physiotherapy in Australia.
  • A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a neurological physiotherapist including work with older adults (gerontology).
  • A minimum of 5 years of academic experience teaching neurological and gerontology content in an accredited program (or part time equivalent).
  • Effectiveness as a teacher, which is evidenced by: student feedback on teaching using valid instrument/s, peer review and/or student outcomes, and the capacity to conceive, develop and deliver higher education curricula and contribute to relevant areas of teaching.
  • Experience in academic leadership, course coordination, and curriculum development in an accredited physiotherapy program.
  • Completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant field or equivalent accreditation and standing.
  • Evidence of research experience, including for example, refereed publications; participation in research teams; supervision of candidates for honours and higher degrees by research.
  • Evidence of participation in professional development activities and the desire to continue to learn and improve as an effective academic and clinician.
  • Membership of and sound connections with relevant professional bodies and community groups and/or in professional practice.
  • Strong personal qualities and collegial approaches that influence the development and maintenance of a positive academic environment which is conducive to high levels of engagement and standards of achievement for both staff and students.

Nice To Haves

  • Postgraduate training or coursework qualification relevant to neurology and/or gerontology.
  • Experience working as a neurological physiotherapist and with older adults across acute, rehabilitation, and community-based settings.
  • Experience as a physiotherapy clinical educator/supervisor assessing and treating older adults with neurological issues in clinical areas of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching in neurology and gerontology across undergraduate physiotherapy programs, using contemporary and inclusive learning approaches.
  • Lead curriculum design, review and renewal, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and clinical practice needs.
  • Coordinate courses and contribute to program leadership and academic governance.
  • Establish and maintain strong clinical partnerships that support student learning and work-integrated opportunities.
  • Develop and lead a coherent research agenda aligned with UniSC’s health priorities.
  • Publish in high-quality refereed journals and contribute to competitive research grant applications.
  • Supervise Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, building research capability within the discipline.
  • Actively contribute to a positive, collegial academic culture and to the broader service and engagement goals of the University.
