Senior Lead Software Engineer - Full Stack

JPMorganChase•Jersey City, NJ

About The Position

JPMorganChase is seeking a Senior Lead Software Engineer to serve as the technical lead for UI and full-stack engineering on ALMonD (Asset Liability Management on Demand), a simulation platform that models how interest rate scenarios affect the firm's net interest income, balance sheet, and other key risk metrics. Within Corporate Technology and the Treasury and Chief Investment Office Technology team, this role sets the front-end and full-stack architecture, builds Python and Java services on AWS, and turns complex quantitative output into intuitive workflows and visualizations. The engineer is expected to contribute production code regularly, establish a high engineering quality bar, and promote responsible use of modern AI tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining reliability, observability, and security. The role combines hands-on software development, technical leadership, product collaboration, and operational ownership. It includes building features from React and TypeScript interfaces through Python services and APIs, with Java services where needed; developing high-performance visualizations of large simulation datasets; and collaborating with Treasury, CIO, Risk, and Quantitative stakeholders. The technical lead mentors and influences the team through design reviews, pairing, and guidance, without formal people-management responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and at least 5 years of applied experience.
  • Advanced Python proficiency, including production services and APIs, type hints, packaging, testing, and performance tuning.
  • Working experience with Java services and the ability to contribute to and review Java code alongside Python.
  • Advanced proficiency in React and TypeScript/JavaScript, including modern state management, component-based architecture, and front-end performance optimization.
  • Strong hands-on system design and full-stack application development skills, with demonstrated production ownership covering delivery, stability, incident response, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience building data-heavy user interfaces, including large interactive grids, charts, and dashboards.
  • Proven experience building authenticated REST and streaming/WebSocket API integrations, including SSO, pagination, retry/backoff, and robust error handling.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying applications on AWS.
  • Experience with modern CI/CD practices, including automated testing, linting, type checking, and a disciplined git/PR workflow.
  • Demonstrated experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day engineering and setting expectations for responsible use and output validation.
  • Strong understanding of web security, WCAG accessibility, and front-end performance best practices.
  • Proven technical leadership, including driving architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, and influencing across teams without direct authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Financial services experience, especially in Treasury, asset liability management (ALM), interest rate risk, fixed income, or balance sheet analytics.
  • Experience building user interfaces for simulation, modeling, or analytics platforms with long-running computations.
  • Hands-on experience building generative AI/LLM product features, such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool/function calling, or agent workflows.
  • Familiarity with emerging AI standards and patterns such as MCP (Model Context Protocol) and agent skills.
  • Familiarity with micro-frontend architectures, design systems, or shared UI component libraries.
  • Exposure to distributed computing or cloud data platforms on AWS.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments requiring strong audit, access control, and change management.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction and architecture for the ALMonD web platform across the front end, service layer, and simulation-engine integration, emphasizing scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Build and maintain full-stack features, from React/TypeScript user interfaces through Python services and APIs, with Java services where needed, deployed on AWS.
  • Design workflows for configuring, running, and comparing interest rate simulations and scenarios in collaboration with Treasury, CIO, and risk stakeholders.
  • Develop high-performance data visualizations, grids, and dashboards for large simulation result sets, including NII and EVE sensitivities, scenario comparisons, and time series.
  • Lead adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering tools for coding, refactoring, test generation, code review, and troubleshooting, and establish standards for validating outputs.
  • Identify and prototype AI opportunities in the product and engineering workflow, including natural-language scenario setup, explanations of simulation results, and automation of repetitive tasks.
  • Set and enforce standards for accessibility, performance, security-by-design, and automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Write secure, high-quality production code and comprehensive tests; participate in code reviews as both author and reviewer.
  • Build observability into front-end and back-end services using logs, metrics, tracing, and real-user monitoring; troubleshoot production issues, participate in incident response as needed, and automate fixes for recurring problems.
  • Mentor and support the team through design reviews, pairing, and hands-on guidance, influencing engineering direction without formal people management.
  • Collaborate with Product, Treasury, CIO, Risk, and Quantitative teams to refine requirements, break down work, and deliver iteratively across Agile increments.
