About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Local Scale Planning, the Senior Lead, Adaptive Management is a leadership role that requires strategic thinking, management of complex environmental programs, and maintenance of essential relationships with various stakeholders. They are responsible for planning, implementing and reporting on the Adaptive Management Plan to support mining operations and regional environmental performance and compliance. To be successful, we are looking for someone with outstanding organization, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, who can effectively collaborate with partners at all levels across the organization, to navigate inter-disciplinary challenges. Strong multitasking, teamwork and environmental project management experience skills are vital for success in this role. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the sustainability of mining through advancing the objectives of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan. Requirements

  • Degree in Science, Planning, Engineering, in environment, biology, chemical, process, civil, geology, or other related field
  • Minimum seven years’ experience, preferably in the mining or resource industries
  • Demonstrated ability in adaptive management, risk management and/or multidiscipline strategy development, and project/program management
  • Proven ability to manage projects and strategic decision-making processes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead environmental management in the mining industry, with experience with water quality management would be an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
  • Experience supervising consultants and contractors
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Manage the water quality adaptive management program, including strategy, scope, schedule, risks and opportunities, consultant management, and regulatory and First Nations engagement
  • Lead and communicate the water quality Adaptive Management Plan including working directly with internal and external partners across multiple disciplines
  • Cultivate relationships with key partners through regular dialogue and coordinated work sessions, encouraging collaboration and communication
  • Seek and develop novel ideas to sustainable development in water quality management and lead a program that puts new ideas into practice
  • Coach and mentor junior staff
  • Incorporate our adaptive management framework and ensure effective management of change processes are employed
  • Support risk management programs and other planning programs as needed
