About The Position

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Laboratory Technician located in South Charleston, WV. In this role, you will provide technical execution of catalyst preparation and disposal activities as well as guidance and influential leadership for the operation of the Quality Control (QC) laboratory supporting 24/7 pilot plant operations. You will be required to provide subject matter guidance to less experienced team members and serve as a specialist for the team with no formal supervisory responsibilities. Your performance impacts the success and productivity of the lab and operations teams with closely related work activities. You are expected to suggest improvements to existing processes and solutions to improve overall team efficiency. You will demonstrate the safe handling and operation of equipment associated with catalyst preparation and QC lab product analysis.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience required.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
  • No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
  • Laboratory Safety: Demonstrates rigorous adherence to Life Critical Standards and safe handling, operation, preparation, and disposal of catalysts and laboratory equipment to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable 24/7 pilot plant and QC laboratory operations.
  • Laboratory Instrumentation: Applies advanced knowledge of laboratory and process equipment used in catalyst preparation and quality control analysis to generate accurate, repeatable product quality data and support continuous pilot plant operations.
  • Process Optimization: Uses deep process knowledge to identify, develop, and implement improvements to laboratory procedures, workflows, operating discipline, and facility processes to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Troubleshoots complex laboratory, process, and equipment deviations by diagnosing root causes, resolving issues in real time, and coaching others to prevent recurrence and improve overall group capability.
  • Leadership: Provides influential, non‑supervisory leadership by mentoring technicians, serving as a subject matter expert, guiding training and curriculum development, and modeling strong safety, quality, and operational behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Applies advanced skills and technical expertise to lead the safe and efficient operation of both catalyst preparation laboratories and QC laboratory.
  • Primary focal point for catalyst preparation and disposal activities supporting 24/7 pilot plant operations, providing detailed execution of safe and precise actions to deliver critical support for process continuity.
  • Uses process knowledge and skills to lead improvements in catalyst lab and QC lab performance and operating discipline, including creating and improving job procedures, facility work processes, and solving complex problems.
  • Works with engineers, leadership, and maintenance craft to develop project plans and procedures, working with group technicians to ensure understanding and execution.
  • Uses troubleshooting skills to coach while resolving process and lab related deviations and problems.
  • Ensures Life Critical Standards are adhered to, driving facility safety and training culture via example.
  • Mentors lab technicians on QC analysis and response to improve group capability in safe, reliable, and repeatable product quality data.
  • Identifies knowledge gaps in process equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance and coaches to improve group capability.
  • Develops curriculum and participates in Training Review Boards for lab technicians and is part of the approval decisions
