About The Position

This role serves as the terminal operational escalation point for the Services team, handling complex issues that Tier 2 analysts cannot resolve. The Senior IT Engineer is responsible for maintaining customer environments, ensuring they are operable and conformant to standards, correcting drift, executing complex changes, and has the authority to halt deliverables that would create future support challenges. The position involves approximately 40-50% of time dedicated to delivering change, including leading migrations, server and cloud transitions, and new customer onboardings, as well as implementing Workplace OS layers and ensuring new builds are operable and properly handed over. A dedicated Implementation Engineer seat is planned as this work grows.

Requirements

  • Five or more years supporting and engineering Microsoft environments, with experience in a managed services or multi-customer setting.
  • A track record of owning complex problems end to end.
  • Experience executing change in production without incident.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft 365: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Defender, Purview fundamentals.
  • In-depth knowledge of Entra ID and Active Directory: hybrid identity, authentication flows, Conditional Access.
  • Proficiency with Windows Server: AD, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, certificates.
  • Experience with Azure infrastructure: virtual machines, networking, storage, backup, Site Recovery, governance and cost.
  • Practical experience with security: MFA, Conditional Access, endpoint protection, patch and vulnerability management, Zero Trust, CIS familiarity.
  • Genuine troubleshooting standard in networking. Cisco Meraki and Barracuda experience is directly relevant.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell for administration and automation.
  • Experience with backup, continuity, and DR: designing and proving functionality.
  • Diagnostic rigor under pressure.
  • Design judgment with standards deference.
  • Risk calibration: understanding blast radius, rollback, and the discipline to stop.
  • Teaching by default: leaving the team more capable.
  • Ability to translate technical reality into plain language without condescension or false comfort.
  • Interest in automation: noticing repetition and wanting it eliminated.

  • Valued certifications: Microsoft endpoint and administrator paths, the SC series, AZ-104 / AZ-305 / AZ-500.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the terminal operational escalation point for the Services team.
  • Take technical command during major incidents, directing diagnosis, deciding actions, and keeping leadership informed.
  • Execute complex change beyond established standards, safely, with rollback planned.
  • Remediate environments back to standard and keep them there.
  • Run post-incident reviews that lead to tangible improvements in standards, runbooks, or automation.
  • Develop Tier 2 analysts.
  • Lead migrations, server and cloud transitions, and new customer onboardings.
  • Implement Workplace OS layers to defined standards.
  • Validate that new builds are operable by the team and hand them over properly.
