About The Position

The Ministry of Justice works to ensure a fair and accessible justice system for all Albertans where the rule of law is upheld, and government undertakings are administered according to law. In collaboration with the judiciary, law enforcement, public safety, and health, the ministry provides programs and services that ensure access to justice and support the needs of Albertans involved in the justice system. The Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives division provides strategic and integrated policy and project services and functions for Justice, focusing on cross-divisional and cross-ministry projects. The Governance and Intergovernmental Relations (GIGR) branch delivers on Justice mandate items and new/emergent priorities, including implementation of key government initiatives, strategic cross-ministry projects, and the intergovernmental and international relations portfolio. The department is seeking a strategic and highly organized professional to support Federal Provincial Territorial (FPT) and international relations work that advances key departmental and cross government priorities. In this role, you will provide centralized coordination and strategic support for FPT activities, working closely with internal partners, other Government of Alberta ministries, and counterparts across Canada. You will support senior leaders through high quality briefings, relationship building, and effective coordination of complex files.

Requirements

  • University graduation in a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years related policy experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Canadian federalism.
  • Experience with government systems, policy cycle and policy approval processes.
  • Experience in project management, especially across diverse functional areas, stakeholders and teams (e.g., stakeholder groups, cross-ministry teams, pan-Canadian and international stakeholders, governments).
  • Experience preparing documents, reports, briefings and/or presentations providing recommendations to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support departmental FPT and international relations activities to ensure Alberta’s priorities are clearly represented.
  • Prepare and coordinate briefing materials for the Minister, Deputy Minister, and Assistant Deputy Minister(s).
  • Lead and coordinate the work of policy staff supporting the FPT portfolio.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal partners and FPT counterparts.
  • Identify emerging issues and provide strategic advice to support informed decision making.
  • Coordinate information sharing across divisions and maintain FPT tools, including SharePoint.
  • Support or represent Alberta at FPT working groups, as required.
