About The Position

Laravel is looking for its first dedicated Senior Infrastructure Engineer, PostgreSQL to join its all-remote Laravel Cloud infrastructure team. The company is on a mission to improve the experience of developers everywhere by building solid infrastructure foundations. This role requires someone who not only understands cloud providers and infrastructure but also has empathy for users and a desire to build the best possible products. Databases are a critical part of the foundation, and this role will focus on ensuring their reliability and security. The ideal candidate is pragmatic, a team player, knowledgeable in best practices, and capable of developing custom solutions when needed. This is a build-it-from-the-ground-up role focused on taking the PostgreSQL offering from functional to excellent, with significant latitude in defining what that means. Key technologies include Kubernetes, AWS, and Go.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering, preferably working closely with large scale production systems.
  • Deep expertise with PostgreSQL in production: performance tuning, replication, backups and recovery, high availability, major version upgrades, and troubleshooting under pressure.
  • Mastery of AWS (or GCP), designing, deploying, and operating production cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and container orchestration, including production cluster operations, stateful workloads, storage, networking, RBAC, cluster upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong proficiency in Go, with experience building and maintaining K8s operators and controllers using tools such as Kubebuilder, controller-runtime, and the Operator SDK.
  • Strong Linux systems administration and networking fundamentals - network protocols, load balancing, caching, and DNS management.
  • Experienced and comfortable with using IaC in a team (Terraform preferred), enforcing sanity checks and policies to help us scale.
  • Experience with CI/CD and GitOps workflows, using tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
  • Experienced and opinionated about logging, monitoring, and alerting tooling and processes (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably, you have worked in large AWS environments, dealing with customer data in multi-account setups spread across multiple regions.
  • Preferably, you have run PostgreSQL on Kubernetes with an operator such as CloudNativePG or Crunchy Postgres for Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, manage, and optimize PostgreSQL clusters on Kubernetes, owning high availability, performance, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Kubernetes operators and controllers in Go to automate database and platform operations.
  • Design, build, and operate highly available cloud infrastructure on AWS across multiple accounts and regions.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, and automate the operational workflows that are still manual today.
  • Improve reliability, scalability, and security through monitoring, observability, and proactive capacity planning.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve developer experience, CI/CD pipelines, and platform automation.
  • Define and promote best practices for database operations, and mentor engineers as our PostgreSQL expertise grows around you.

Benefits

  • Health care plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Paid time off (Vacation, Sick & Public holidays)
  • Family leave (Maternity, Paternity)
  • Pension plans (As locally applicable)
  • Performance based bonus plan
  • Company equity
