About The Position

Moog’s Corporate Group is hiring a Senior Import Specialist to join their Trade Compliance Team! As the Senior Import Specialist, you will be a key contributor within the Import Compliance team responsible for ensuring the organization’s import activities are fully compliant with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and applicable government agency requirements. You will provide subject‑matter expertise across classification, valuation, country of origin, and trade programs, while leading initiatives to strengthen controls, optimize processes, and support cost‑effective, compliant import operations. You will serve as a trusted partner to internal stakeholders, customs brokers, and regulatory authorities, helping to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, scalable solutions. In addition to leading strategic compliance initiatives, you will be accountable for the day-to-day management of import compliance activities, including overseeing entry accuracy, maintaining import records, responding to CBP inquiries, and monitoring broker performance. You must be a hands‑on professional who can balance daily operational execution with project leadership, continuous improvement, and training of cross‑functional teams. You will play a critical role in maintaining operational integrity, mitigating compliance risk, and supporting business objectives in a fast‑paced environment. You will work a hybrid schedule at our facility in East Aurora, NY.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (business, supply chain, international trade, logistics, or related field preferred).
  • Over five (5) years of experience in U.S. import compliance, customs regulations, and government agency requirements.
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and implement process automation solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong project management experience, including cross‑functional leadership.
  • Proven ability to design, document, and implement clear and effective procedures.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps).
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with CBP, PGAs, customs brokers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities, with the capacity to interpret regulations, evaluate risks, and recommend compliant solutions.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, especially in managing deadlines, documentation, and multi‑step compliance workflows.
  • Must live local to the Buffalo, NY area to work onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve end‑to‑end import processes.
  • Lead compliance-related projects, corrective actions, and system enhancements.
  • Train cross‑functional teams on import compliance requirements and standard procedures.
  • Establish and maintain import SOPs, broker instructions, and control mechanisms.
  • Ensure full compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, import laws, and applicable government agency requirements.
  • Interpret and apply regulations related to classification, valuation, country of origin, and admissibility.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of Section 232 tariffs and other trade‑remedy programs.
  • Design & develop defense contract duty-free programs, free trade agreement qualification, and related trade preference programs.
  • Lead classification determinations, including complex multi‑component product assessments.
  • Perform country-of-origin analysis, COO shifts, and rules of origin requirements.
  • Perform entry assessments, post‑entry reviews, and periodic audits of broker performance.
  • Evaluate and implement programs such as DFE/defense contract, TIBs, FTAs, Reconciliation, 9801/9802 provisions, and alternative classification strategies.
  • Support cost‑reduction initiatives through compliance-focused import optimization.
  • Respond to CBP Notices (CF28s, CF29s), Requests for Information, and other regulatory inquiries.
  • Train cross‑functional teams on import compliance requirements and standard procedures.
  • Support daily import activities such as facilitating clearances and providing instructions to Customs Brokers.
  • Ensure Customs Recordkeeping requirements are satisfied.
  • Ensure complete and accurate maintenance of import files, entry packets, broker communications, and audit trails.
