About The Position

The Senior I&E Designer develops, reviews, and coordinates instrumentation and electrical (I&E) design packages for industrial and energy projects. The role creates detailed drawings, layouts, and schematics in compliance with industry standards and client requirements, provides technical leadership, ensures design quality, and mentors junior designers and drafters. The candidate should have a strong background in refinery, petrochemical, and industrial facility projects and be able to independently execute detailed design packages, perform field walkdowns, coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, and produce accurate, constructible deliverables. Strong field experience and the ability to support multiple projects are essential. Experience checking drawings and mentoring less-experienced designers is preferred.

Requirements

At least 10 years of I&E design experience, including at least 3 years in a senior design role.
Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field.
Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD.
In-depth knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design principles.
Familiarity with NEC, ISA, IEEE, and other industry standards.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, field, and client teams.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), Navisworks, or similar engineering design software.
Technical degree or certification in drafting, electrical technology, or a related field.
Previous experience checking drawings and mentoring less-experienced designers.

Responsibilities

Prepare and review detailed I&E drawings, including wiring diagrams, schematics, loop diagrams, and panel layouts.
Develop cable and conduit routing, termination schedules, and equipment layouts.
Ensure compliance with NEC, ISA, IEEE, and client-specific standards.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to resolve design issues.
Create and maintain accurate as-built drawings and redlines.
Support field teams with design clarifications and technical guidance.
Coordinate with procurement for materials lists and equipment specifications.
Mentor and provide training to junior designers and CAD personnel.
Participate in design reviews and project meetings to ensure quality and accuracy.
Perform field walkdowns and coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines.
