About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Employee Relations and Total Compensation, the Senior Advisor, Employee Relations provides expert guidance and strategic support across the full spectrum of labour relations activities. This role partners closely with leaders to manage complex, sensitive, and high-risk workplace matters, including conducting and leading workplace investigations, ensuring timely, consistent, and effective resolution. The incumbent supports the collective bargaining process through research, analysis, preparation of materials, and implementation of collective agreements. The role also contributes to the development, interpretation, and consistent application of labour relations policies, programs, and collective agreements. Acting as a trusted advisor, the Senior Advisor aligns labour relations strategies with organizational priorities, legislative requirements, and terms and conditions of employment. By staying current on emerging trends, case law, and best practices, the role delivers practical, high-impact solutions that strengthen union–management relationships, enhance the employee experience, and support the organization’s commitment to being an employer of choice.

Requirements

  • A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in human resources management, labour or industrial relations, public or business administration, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in delivering a full range of HR services to client groups, with a focus on labour relations in a unionized environment.
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in advising on complex and high-risk employee relations matters, providing clear, practical, and risk-based guidance.
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in conducting workplace investigations (e.g., harassment, misconduct, policy breaches), including interviews, analysis, and report writing.
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in interpreting and applying collective agreements, labour legislation, and organizational policies to ensure consistent and compliant outcomes.
  • Knowledge of labour relations trends, legislation, policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of workplace investigation principles.
  • Knowledge of Federal Public Sector Labour Relations Act.
  • Knowledge of Canada Labour Code, Part II.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize concurrent demands and multiple projects to meet client expectations, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to provide professional services and advice in order to meet clients’ needs and expectations while respecting organizational and policy requirements.
  • Ability to analyze, develop and recommend solutions, options and strategies on a variety of complex cases and risks.
