Senior HPC Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior High Performance Computing (HPC) Software Engineer to join our team at Voltron Data. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and support of the Voltron Data and Apache Arrow ecosystems. Your main responsibilities will involve collaborating with development teams to design, architect, and implement high-performance data analytics computational primitives. As a part of our team, you will also have the chance to work on profiling and performance optimization strategies, as well as contribute to the open-source Apache Arrow ecosystem.

Help support and grow the Voltron Data and Apache Arrow ecosystems

Design, architect, and implement high-performance data analytics computational primitives

Learn about the Apache Arrow memory layout, compute primitives, and APIs

Familiarize yourself with the different partners for compute on Apache Arrow

Help define profiling and performance optimization strategies

Architect and design performant compute kernels that leverage vectorization

Lead technical discussions, build technical design documents, and review work in kernel development

Collaborate with other teams at Voltron Data to ensure that compute kernel APIs can be utilized effectively and efficiently

Collaborate with the open source Apache Arrow ecosystem to make Arrow the most performant data analytics solution possible

Architect and design a plan to support multiple architectures and platforms

Propose plans to balance prioritization between development of new kernels and optimization of existing kernels

Design a process to ensure kernels are consistently improving in performance and work

• Highly motivated Senior High Performance Computing (HPC) Software Engineer
• Experience in supporting and growing the Voltron Data and Apache Arrow ecosystems
• Ability to design, architect, and implement high-performance data analytics computational primitives
• Series A, venture-backed startup experience
• Knowledge of Apache Arrow memory layout, compute primitives, and APIs
• Familiarity with partners for compute on Apache Arrow
• Profiling and performance optimization strategies
• Architecting and designing performant compute kernels that leverage vectorization
• Leading technical discussions, building technical design documents, and reviewing work in kernel development
• Collaboration with other teams to ensure effective utilization of compute kernel APIs
• Collaboration with the open source Apache Arrow ecosystem
• Architecting and designing a plan to support multiple architectures and platforms
• Balancing prioritization between development of new kernels and optimization of existing kernels
• Profiling, scaling studies, parallelization, and memory bandwidth analyses
• Acting as a HPC software engineer tech leader
• Defining standard methodologies for compute kernel development
• Ensuring high quality of compute kernels, balancing performance, usability, and maintainability
• Developing strategies for improving performance and productivity requirements across teams
