About The Position

JLL is seeking an experienced Senior High Voltage Electrical Engineer to lead the design and engineering of critical electrical infrastructure for hyperscale data centers and mission-critical facilities. The role provides technical leadership for complex capital projects involving high-voltage electrical systems, utility-scale substations, on-site generation, and renewable energy integration. The engineer serves as the technical authority for data center electrical infrastructure projects, leading system architecture, utility coordination, and engineering oversight from concept through commissioning. The position focuses on medium- and high-voltage power distribution, substation design, generation technologies, and resilient electrical infrastructure for large-scale data center operations. It includes designing campus systems and power architectures, integrating sustainable energy resources, advising clients on infrastructure strategy, and supporting projects through design review, construction, and commissioning. The role is listed as remote in several U.S. locations, but requires travel and on-site work in Lufkin, Texas, three to four days per week. Visa sponsorship is not provided; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 8–12 years of progressive electrical engineering experience focused substantially on high-voltage power systems, substation design, and mission-critical facilities.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing, or ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
  • Deep expertise in medium-voltage (4.16 kV–35 kV) and high-voltage (69 kV–230 kV) electrical system design, substation engineering, and utility interconnection.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data center electrical infrastructure, redundant power architectures, and Uptime Institute Tier Standards.
  • Expert-level proficiency with electrical analysis software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or EasyPower.
  • Demonstrated experience leading utility coordination and interconnection processes for large power users (100+ MW).
  • Strong technical leadership and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work on-site in Lufkin, Texas, three to four days per week.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
  • PE license active in multiple states.
  • LEED AP or other sustainable design credential.
  • IEEE Senior Member status or active participation in professional societies.
  • Direct experience with hyperscale data center operators such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Meta, or with large colocation providers.
  • Expertise in renewable energy integration, including large-scale solar PV and grid-scale battery storage.
  • Advanced knowledge of microgrid design and distributed energy resources.
  • Experience with design-build and EPC project delivery methods.
  • Background in campus master planning and phased infrastructure development.
  • Expertise in digital substation technologies and IEC 61850 protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and engineering of medium-voltage and utility-voltage systems for hyperscale data center campuses, developing reliable, redundant, scalable architectures.
  • Design utility-scale substations, campus distribution systems, single-line diagrams, protection schematics, layouts, digital relaying, and substation automation.
  • Perform electrical system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, transient stability, harmonic, and protective-device coordination analyses.
  • Lead utility interconnection strategy and design for developments requiring more than 100 MW of utility capacity, including coordination with utility providers and transmission-planning processes.
  • Architect data center distribution systems, including medium-voltage loops, unit substations, diverse utility feeds, and infrastructure supporting Tier III and Tier IV availability requirements.
  • Develop campus electrical master plans and phased infrastructure roadmaps for multi-building developments.
  • Design redundant power architectures, switching schemes, isolation strategies, and maintenance bypass configurations.
  • Lead integration of solar arrays, battery energy storage, fuel cells, and microgrids.
  • Design on-site generation systems, including emergency and natural-gas generators, combined heat and power systems, generator paralleling schemes, and automatic transfer switch configurations.
  • Engineer battery energy storage and solar photovoltaic systems for demand response, frequency regulation, renewable energy time-shifting, backup power, and sustainability objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship; establish engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices.
  • Advise hyperscale clients on electrical infrastructure strategy, capacity planning, and capital investment; support proposal development and technical presentations.
  • Lead technical due diligence of data center acquisitions and develop long-term electrical infrastructure master plans.
  • Lead design reviews to ensure technical accuracy, code compliance, and constructability.
  • Provide field engineering support during construction and resolve complex field issues.
  • Develop commissioning plans and test procedures and lead commissioning activities, including transformer energization, relay testing, generator validation, and integrated system testing.

Benefits

  • 401(k) plan with matching company contributions.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision care.
  • Paid parental leave at 100% of salary.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Early access to earned wages through Daily Pay.
  • Supportive workplace culture and a benefits package prioritizing mental, physical, and emotional health.
