About The Position

Methode Electronics is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the product development lifecycle for high-voltage power distribution components, with a focus on data center busbars, industrial power pathways, and wire harnesses. The role owns design, analysis, and validation, leading projects from concept through production launch and coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet electrical, thermal, structural, manufacturing, and customer requirements. The engineer will design and develop high-voltage components, create 3D models and production-ready drawings, and optimize vertical busbar architectures for data center infrastructure. Designs must address electrical and thermal performance, structural loads, seismic bracing, thermal expansion, joint integrity, insulation, phase isolation, and ingress protection. The role also works with FEA analysts to define simulation setups and interpret thermal, fluid-flow, and structural results. The position applies GD&T and relevant industry standards to engineering documentation, uses knowledge of conductive metals, plating, insulation, and polymers in design and qualification, and leads cross-functional development gates. The technical lead coordinates cost, schedule, tooling feasibility, and customer specifications through production release.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years of mechanical design experience in New Product Development, focused on high-voltage power distribution, industrial busbars, or data center infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in advanced 3D CAD platforms such as Creo, SolidWorks, or CATIA, and PLM software.
  • Strong familiarity with copper fabrication, extrusion, over molding, and manufacturing assembly processes.

Responsibilities

  • Specify, design, and develop high-voltage components, including data center busbars and high-power wire harnesses.
  • Use advanced 3D CAD software to create detailed models, architectural layouts, and production-ready manufacturing drawings.
  • Optimize vertical busbar architectures for data center infrastructure, addressing electrical and thermal performance, structural loading, seismic bracing, thermal expansion, joint integrity, phase isolation, insulation, and ingress protection.
  • Collaborate with FEA analysts to define model setups, boundary conditions, and assumptions; interpret thermal, fluid-flow, and structural simulation results to validate designs under maximum electrical load and fault conditions.
  • Apply GD&T and ensure technical documentation, tolerance stacks, and engineering drawings comply with applicable industry standards.
  • Apply knowledge of material properties, including copper and aluminum conductivity, plating, insulation chemistry, and polymer selection, to design, environmental testing, and qualification.
  • Lead cross-functional product development gates from concept through production release.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact and align cost, timeline, tooling feasibility, and customer specifications.
