About The Position

Vista Virtual School is seeking a temporary full-time (1.0 FTE) Math Teacher. Courses include Math 9, 10C, 20-1, and CTS courses Accounting Cycle 1 & 2 and Accounting Prep. Duties are to commence as soon as possible and end December 18, 2026. A telecommuting agreement may be available if mutually agreed upon by the school and the successful applicant.

Vista Virtual School is an accredited public elementary, junior high, and senior high school, including adult education and upgrading, serving residents of Alberta. Its online learning environment gives students flexibility in where and when they learn. The successful candidate will teach in a distance education environment, address a wide range of student needs, and support students' progress while maintaining close contact with students, parents, and other stakeholders.

Applicants must provide references with permission for Pembina Hills School Division to contact them. Before employment, the successful applicant must provide an original criminal record check, including Vulnerable Sector, and an original Intervention Record Check, each dated within one year. Education and relevant experience must be verified. The competition remains open until a suitable candidate is found.

Requirements

• Hold a valid Alberta teaching certificate.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of educational technology.
• Demonstrate understanding and application of assessment for learning through individualized instruction.
• Have thorough knowledge and understanding of the Alberta Curriculum.
• Have the ability and willingness to travel and work with students and parents throughout Alberta.
• Be able to teach and address a wide range of student needs in a distance education environment.
• Be a strong team member and able to work independently.
• Be committed to a learner-centered philosophy.
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Provide references with permission for Pembina Hills School Division to contact them.
• Provide an original criminal record check, including Vulnerable Sector, dated within one year, before employment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a distance learning environment; preference will be given to candidates with this experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach Math 9, 10C, 20-1, Accounting Cycle 1 & 2, and Accounting Prep.
• Provide individualized instruction and address a wide range of student needs in a distance education environment.
• Monitor, guide, and support students in their progress.
• Maintain close contact with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
• Work with students and parents throughout Alberta, including travel as required.
• Work collaboratively as a team member while also working independently.
• Advise supervisors of unknown risks encountered that relate directly to the work.
• Cooperate in ensuring workplace health and safety in a caring and respectful educational setting.
