The SHE will assist the HEPM with the development and submission of the tobacco prevention work plan, focusing on preventing tobacco initiation among youth and young adults, promoting cessation, and reducing exposure to secondhand smoke. The role involves initiating, coordinating, and providing health promotion and public health education to businesses, community organizations, and the Health Department. This includes educating and consulting with organizations on the benefits of tobacco-free policies, providing information on the Cessation Access initiative, and assisting with policy change creation and implementation. The SHE will conduct assessments of local organizations, maintain contact, and track progress towards policy change quarterly. Additionally, the SHE will assist the HEPM in preparing and facilitating meetings of the Consortium for a Healthier Miami Dade, ensuring program alignment with tobacco initiatives, and supporting the Cessation Access subcommittee. The role includes recruiting partnership members, providing information for website updates, and developing culturally sensitive educational presentations on chronic disease and healthy lifestyles, with a focus on tobacco use and secondhand smoke. Collaboration with other staff on health promotion materials and media campaigns is expected. The SHE will collect and analyze data for program outcomes, enter reports into the Automated Tobacco Activity Collection System (ATACS), and submit regular reports to ensure compliance with State Guidelines. Procurement justifications for tobacco prevention initiatives will also be prepared. The position promotes the Florida Quitline and refers community members to cessation services, tracks referrals, and promotes empowerment through increased knowledge of tobacco issues.
