About The Position

This is a highly responsible professional position responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating public health programs that improve health outcomes in Walton County through collaboration with other agencies and improving public health organizational infrastructure. Duties will include participating on internal and external councils, committees and workgroups, participation in local health initiatives, developing health education communication materials, as well as preparing grant applications, manuscripts, reports, and other written materials.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees implementation of the Community–Based Tobacco Prevention Interventions Program in alignment with Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida guidelines and statewide objectives.
  • Coordinates planning, development, and execution of evidence‑based tobacco prevention strategies across Walton County, ensuring activities reflect local needs and priorities.
  • Leads the establishment, support, and expansion of Student Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) clubs, providing youth with guidance, resources, and training to implement peer‑driven prevention initiatives.
  • Facilitates partnerships with schools, community organizations, healthcare providers, and local coalitions to advance tobacco-free policies and community engagement efforts.
  • Conducts outreach, presentations, and educational sessions to raise awareness of tobacco-related issues, emerging trends, and program goals.
  • Develops and maintains program workplans, timelines, and required documentation, ensuring timely submission of the annual workplan to the Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida.
  • Monitors program progress, evaluates outcomes, and prepares reports detailing achievements, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Trains and supports youth and adult partners in tobacco prevention strategies, advocacy skills, and implementation of policy-based initiatives.
  • Manages program communication efforts, including social media content, community messaging, and dissemination of prevention materials consistent with statewide branding standards.
  • Supports implementation of health promotion activities that align with the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) and address local public health priorities.
  • Assists in coordinating community health initiatives led by the Healthy Communities of Florida Liaison, promoting policy, systems, and environmental strategies that improve population health.
  • Participates in Public Health Preparedness efforts by supporting risk communication activities, community outreach, and helping coordinate efforts with partners.
  • Collaborates with internal programs and external partners to improve health outcomes and strengthen community capacity related to chronic disease prevention, wellness, and healthy behaviors.
  • Engages community stakeholders—including schools, civic organizations, healthcare providers, and local government—in health promotion efforts that reinforce county‑wide health strategies.
  • Contributes to assessment and planning activities by gathering community feedback, supporting data collection, and providing program‑level insight for CHIP reporting and evaluation.
  • Assists the manager with cross‑program coordination to ensure health promotion efforts are aligned with department goals and complement initiatives in other program areas.
  • Supports development of educational materials, outreach tools, and communication strategies that enhance public awareness of community health priorities.
  • Helps facilitate community meetings, workgroups, and partner events that advance CHIP goals and other department‑driven health initiatives.
  • Adheres to purchasing guidelines.
  • Assures a process is in place to track promotional and incentive item receipt and dispersal, periodic inventory checks are completed.
  • Assist with and/or develop material content that meets specifications.
  • Supports information desk on an as needed basis to answer incoming calls and other receptionist duties when needed.
  • Maintains accurate personal calendar in outlook.
  • Assists other departments or staff on activities if needed and available with supervisor permission.
  • Serves on committees and actively participate in departmental and staff meetings.
  • Attends out of town training sessions and/or program meetings as requested, performs other duties as assigned.
