About The Position

We are Vista Global Solutions, LLC (VGS), a government consulting and contracting firm specializing in health solutions across the nation. We are currently seeking a Health Educator to assist with a new mission in San Diego, CA. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Successful completion of one of the following: Education, Social Work, Behavioral Sciences, Exercise Sciences, Nursing, Healthcare or Public Health
  • Familiarity with at least one self-care, mind body medicine modality (i.e. meditation, yoga, qigong, tai chi, etc.)
  • Professional knowledge and skills in the application of a wide range of public health principles, trends, learning theories, practices, procedures, and techniques to be able to assess, develop and perform highly specialized and current methods of health teaching.
  • Knowledge of the research process through extended study, experience and ability to conduct research.
  • Knowledge of quality assessment and principles to monitor established standards of education and clinical practice for the improvement of health education services.
  • Demonstrates competency in leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary coordinator and education consultant, assisting the Head of MBM on planning, designing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising diverse MBM programs and administrative support services.
  • Act as the education consultant to staff members in inpatient and ambulatory care areas, and to local military Commands and surrounding military fleet.
  • Coordinate daily operations and administrative activities of the Mind Body Medicine programs offered by the Directorate of Public Health.
  • Coordinate Health Education activities with heads of departments and multi-disciplinary educators involved in patient and staff education.
  • Conduct curriculum planning, design, development, evaluation, and revision of education programs for specific populations.
  • Support and participate in performance improvement processes by ensuring educators are oriented to course content, including lesson topic guides and training materials.
  • Evaluate instructor effectiveness and provide training to enhance skills.
  • Stay current on educational principles, strategies, methods, teaching skills, instructional aides, computer-assisted instruction, program evaluations, and other topics to improve education quality.
  • Implement and conduct program evaluations for multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Periodically review educational curricula to ensure Mind Body Medicine programs are valid, reliable, current, and directly related to learning objectives.
  • Review and evaluate educational/marketing materials for updates, relevance, and appropriateness to subject matter and target groups.
  • Provide primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of intervention in the Mind Body Medicine arena, including individual consultations.
  • Develop, update, and promote “Train the Trainer” programs for professional personnel to enable them to serve as primary instructors for individual patients.
  • Coordinate special projects such as education-focused workshops, health fairs, informative displays, and programs for special groups.
  • Advise on record keeping and coordinating for the purchasing, production, and distribution of educational pamphlets, audio-visual materials, and other necessary supplies based on Command and Department priorities.
  • Maintain professional standards, effectiveness, and quality of education and care through program reviews, research, evaluation, assessments, and revisions.
  • Prepare annual Mind Body Medicine schedules for patient classes and healthcare provider in-service education.
  • Conduct surveys and assessments to identify patients’ needs, concerns, and solutions.
  • Ensure educational program workload is captured effectively and compile data for future educational projects, studies, and research.
  • Serve as marketing coordinator for assigned educational programs to staff and patients within the hospital, Branch Medical Clinics, and Tricare Outpatient Clinics (TOCs).
  • Serve as liaison between the command and community resources for patient education.
  • Network with the military community, community health agencies, civilian hospitals, support groups, and educational institutions.
  • Perform other tasks as determined by the Head, Mind Body Medicine and/or Director for Public Health within the scope of work.
