About The Position

This is a professional position responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and delivering health promotion and STD/HIV health education and performing outreach activities to community members with a high likelihood of contracting HIV. This position is under the direct supervision of the Health Education Supervisor. Plans, develops, implements, evaluates, and delivers comprehensive STD/HIV education prevention programs and develops specific intervention strategies according to the Center for Disease and Control Program (CDC) approved behavioral, biomedical, and structural interventions, public health strategies, and social marketing campaigns targeting priority populations in Miami-Dade County. Provides behavioral modification interventions using the compendium of evidence-based interventions (EBIs), Evidence-Informed Interventions (EIs), and best practices for HIV prevention for priority populations to promote healthy lifestyles in the areas of STD/HIV prevention. Delivers educational information to communities disproportionately affected by HIV, inclusive of PrEP/PEP awareness and safer sex practices during outreach activities. Understands social determinants of health linked to HIV prevention and care and promotes strategies that provide knowledge and behavior modification skills that will contribute to healthy lifestyles for Miami-Dade communities. Supports Community Mobilization initiatives and develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with local community leaders, community-based organizations, and institutions to facilitate the provision of HIV/AIDS education prevention programs to priority communities in Miami-Dade County. Coordinates community engagement activities and leads a Community Mobilization group by partnering with community-based organizations, local businesses, AIDS service organizations, and gatekeepers to develop, implement, evaluate, and expand local, state, and national HIV/AIDS Initiatives for priority communities. Attends community meetings and serves on advisory committees as requested by the Health Education Supervisor. Collaborates with Florida Department of Health programmatic staff in the areas of disease control, and local groups to determine community health needs, availability of services, and to develop goals for meeting needs. Provides guidance to agencies and organizations on STD/HIV. Serves as a resource for participating agencies and clients; keeping an updated directory of available services in the priority areas; becoming an HIV/AIDS service referral source for people in need; enhancing the STD/HIV prevention and education activities within that specific high-incidence areas and priority populations. Participates in targeted outreach efforts, including initiatives such as Molecular Networks; Take the Train, Take the Test; and Business Response to AIDS. Develops, prepares, and coordinates health needs assessments and other public health surveys as requested. Collects and reviews data, statistical charts, and graphs to be used for educational purposes. Develops and presents health education and promotion programs, such as training workshops, conferences, and school or community presentations. Provides professional educational presentations based on approved interventions throughout Miami-Dade County as requested. Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in either written form or by electronic recording. Collect data from activities and/or interventions and reported in the State of Florida assigned data collection system monthly. Process and submit monthly program report. Document activities and record information, such as the numbers of presentations conducted, persons educated on STD/HIV, and customer satisfaction surveys completed. Assist in additional office related activities and duties as assigned, including the volunteer program. Participation in the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade activities including Test Miami and National HIV Days of Observance. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to talk to others to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish
  • Valid driver's license
  • Access to an automobile to perform work-related duties
  • Experience in public speaking
