About The Position

The Senior Health Data Analyst leads HIV/STI surveillance activities, including case reporting, data collection, validation, case management, and de-duplication, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with surveillance standards. This role involves conducting and overseeing statistical and epidemiologic analyses to identify trends, disparities, and emerging patterns, and developing various reports and dashboards for stakeholders. The analyst is responsible for implementing data quality assurance processes, collaborating with public health teams to translate findings into actionable insights, and providing training on surveillance methods and analytic tools. Additionally, the position requires staying current on public health trends, responding to data requests, delivering presentations, maintaining strict adherence to confidentiality and data security policies (HIPAA, CDC, state requirements), and participating in emergency preparedness activities as directed.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Informatics, Health Policy, or a related field.
  • At least five (5) years of combined experience in public health surveillance, epidemiologic analysis, and health data management.
  • Proven proficiency with both oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to complete multiple tasks a must.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.

Nice To Haves

  • Focus on HIV/STI surveillance preferred.
  • Experience in a supervisory or team leadership role preferred.
  • Experience using data languages/tools such as R, Python, SQL, or similar analytic platforms in a health or public health setting preferred.
  • Experience working with surveillance systems such as eHARS, NBS, Maven/THISIS, or other disease surveillance platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads HIV/STI surveillance activities, including case reporting, data collection, data validation, case management, and de-duplication, by providing mentorship, training, and performance oversight to ensure data accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with surveillance standards.
  • Conducts and oversees statistical and epidemiologic analyses to identify trends, disparities, and emerging patterns while developing routine and ad-hoc reports, dashboards, and epidemiologic profiles for stakeholders.
  • Ensures data meets CDC and state reporting standards for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Implements data quality assurance and improvement processes.
  • Collaborates with program managers, disease intervention specialists, and public health leadership to translate surveillance findings into actionable insights for prevention, care and program evaluation.
  • Fosters a culture of data-informed decision-making by developing and delivering training on surveillance methods, data interpretation, and analytic tools to staff across the HIV/STI Prevention Program.
  • Conducts literature reviews and stays current on public health trends to identify and implement best practices in surveillance and analytic methodologies.
  • Responds to data requests from all stakeholders and prepares and delivers data presentations to local, state and national partners.
  • Maintains strict adherence to confidentiality and data security policies, ensuring compliance with HIPAA, CDC, and state surveillance requirements.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness and response activities as directed by county leadership during a declared public health emergency or disaster.
