About The Position

The Montana Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a Health Services Data Analyst to join their Research Analytics and Planning Unit in Helena, MT. This role is crucial in transforming complex health data into actionable insights to improve healthcare delivery in a correctional setting. The analyst will research, develop, and apply analytical techniques to inform strategic decisions, aiming to reduce healthcare costs, improve care quality, and support healthier communities. The position involves analyzing various types of healthcare data, including clinical, claims, pharmaceutical, behavioral health, and public health data, to shape programs, policies, and decisions. This is a hybrid position requiring at least two days per week in the Helena, MT office.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, epidemiology, or another related research-intensive field.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in economic, statistical, epidemiological, program evaluation, or related analysis.
  • Experience with data tools such as Tableau, R, Microsoft Power BI, or SAS.
  • Written and verbal communication, creative thinking, interpersonal skills, and time management.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze quantitative and non-quantitative healthcare data to support strategic decision-making.
  • Modify and enhance data collection methods and statistical models as industry needs evolve.
  • Collaborate across the agency or business unit on research initiatives and data projects.
  • Collaborate with other state agencies to manage data sharing and inter-agency data processes.
  • Integrate multiple data sources to produce meaningful projections, trends, and interpretations.
  • Develop research reports with descriptive, analytical, and evaluative insights, including clear recommendations.
  • Work with data system vendors to ensure quality reporting and data availability.
  • Work as a member of the RAP team with a primary focus on healthcare-related data and initiatives.
  • Support broader department data needs as required.
