About The Position

Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Senior Hardware Product Manager to define and evolve its enterprise next-generation firewall hardware portfolio within the Network Security organization. The role owns platform excellence across physical hardware used by enterprise customers, including security, routing, switching, and SD-WAN appliances, from early architecture through commercial scale. The manager leads cross-functional teams and is accountable for performance, reliability, cost optimization, and ease of deployment. The position develops hardware strategy and lifecycle roadmaps; translates customer and market needs into product requirements; and guides specifications, component choices, manufacturing partnerships, certification, release quality, orderability, and customer-facing technical materials. It also uses operational and product data, including telemetry and AI-enabled tools, to inform improvements and decisions. The role involves executive reviews, webinars, customer engagement, and resolution of complex technical escalations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in product management, technical product management, technical marketing, engineering leadership, or a related technical role.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with security, networking, switching infrastructure, or related platform products.
  • Deep understanding of ASIC, FPGA, and CPU architectures and how hardware offloads security, switching, and routing functions at line rate.
  • Expertise defining enterprise hardware specifications, including L2/L3 switching, routing, SD-WAN, PoE, Ethernet speeds, network topologies, and optics/transceiver technologies.
  • Technical product management experience leading complex hardware platforms through the full NPI lifecycle (EVT, DVT, PVT), including manufacturing partners, vendor timelines, component selection, and supply-chain alignment.
  • Success in COGS optimization, margin management, ROI modeling, and forecasting in coordination with Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, solve complex cross-functional challenges, and make data-backed decisions in high-stakes environments.
  • Ability to connect engineering discussions with executive strategy and work with Technical Marketing, Sales, IT, and Field teams to enable specialized sales motions and adoption.
  • Awareness of global technology trends, market shifts, and competitive landscapes relevant to physical appliance performance, density, and value.

Responsibilities

  • Drive physical platform strategy across switching, routing, SD-WAN, and security appliances, including specifications, ASIC/FPGA/CPU requirements, component selection, vendor timelines, and lifecycle roadmaps.
  • Develop and execute a forward-looking hardware portfolio strategy informed by industry and technology trends.
  • Translate customer and market requirements into product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and measurable success metrics; monitor KPIs and use customer, product, and operational data to guide priorities and improvements.
  • Lead operational models for strategic manufacturing partnerships while balancing production alignment and COGS optimization with engineering oversight, quality standards, and IP protection.
  • Define and simplify platform scale parameters, including throughput, switching capacity, port density, session scale, and latency, to guide customer deployment sizing.
  • Use AIOps, telemetry, and visibility tools to identify hardware performance, reliability, and component-quality insights, and turn them into product innovations, engineering fixes, and business justifications.
  • Lead hardware integrations with technology partners and silicon vendors and oversee global certifications, including FIPS, Common Criteria, and NEBS.
  • Maintain focus on release quality, system stability, and orderability from silicon conceptualization through pricing and NPI; coordinate forecasting, orderability, and sales enablement with Supply Chain, IT, Finance, and GTM teams.
  • Review datasheets and technical documentation with Technical Marketing to ensure external messaging is accurate and technically sound.
  • Partner with Customer Support and Engineering to resolve complex technical escalations and provide a strong customer experience.
  • Present quarterly business reviews to executive leadership, conduct webinars, and represent Palo Alto Networks to enterprise customers.
  • Use AI and modern product-development tools to accelerate research, prototyping, analytics, requirements development, and product decisions.
