About The Position

onX is seeking a Senior Hardware Field Test Engineer to help bring a new connected product experience to market as a complement to the onX Hunt app. Based in or near Bozeman or Missoula, Montana, the role independently leads the end-to-end field-testing program during product development, testing, and launch preparation. The role establishes and improves field-testing processes, connects insights from testers, customer support, engineering, and manufacturing, and provides data-informed assessments of product quality and launch readiness. It requires autonomy in an evolving environment, sound technical judgment, and collaboration across teams. The position reports to the Director of Connected Devices and requires periodic travel between Montana offices or other locations as business needs require. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex hardware testing programs, establish effective processes, and deliver results in evolving or ambiguous environments.
  • Strong experience investigating, prioritizing, and managing defects, anticipating technical risks, evaluating trade-offs, and recommending effective solutions.
  • Experience partnering across engineering, manufacturing, and other teams to align priorities, navigate challenges, and drive technical issues toward resolution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including synthesizing field data, identifying patterns, evaluating risks, and making sound decisions with incomplete information.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve testing practices, manage competing priorities, and strengthen product quality.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings, quality risks, and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
