About The Position

Keeps the grounds of City parks and other recreational areas clean and maintained. The position involves concrete construction, safe operation and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment, irrigation work, routine plumbing and carpentry, and general park upkeep.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of experience in grounds keeping or maintenance work, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
• Valid Texas Driver's License.
• Physical exam required.
• Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and methods used in park maintenance.
• Knowledge of methods involved in routine plumbing, carpentry, and concrete construction work.
• Knowledge of methods for watering and maintaining turf areas.
• Basic skills in mowing and weed eater operation.
• Basic skills in irrigation, including replacing sprinklers and related components.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend daily instructions.
• Ability to perform basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and gardening tasks.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment skillfully and safely.
• Ability to perform maintenance and service work on trucks and heavy equipment and make field repairs.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Continuously stand and walk during the shift; occasionally climb ladders, stairs, poles, scaffolding, and other inclined surfaces; frequently bend and kneel.
• Continuously lift and carry up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Occasionally push and pull objects; occasionally flex the upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees; occasionally rotate the upper trunk while sitting or standing; frequently reach above, at, or below shoulder height.
• Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement to operate a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Construct forms, pour, and finish concrete for structures such as sidewalks, walls, and curbs.
• Safely drive and maintain City trucks, tractors, mowers, and weed eaters.
• Install and maintain sprinklers and perform occasional basic plumbing and carpentry work.
• Operate related power tools.
• Mow and edge grass; plant, fertilize, and water trees, flowers, and grass.
• Clean park grounds and restrooms and maintain areas pertaining to park facilities.
• Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Perform related duties as required.
