About The Position

The Town of Gilbert is hiring a part-time Grounds Maintenance Worker I. The role performs turf and landscape maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, cultivation, fertilization, watering, and pruning. It also involves general landscape cleanup, trash and debris removal, graffiti removal, and litter pickup. Tree maintenance is performed using equipment such as chainsaws, stump grinders, pole saws, and chippers.

There are three current vacancies, one of which is posted separately. The posting describes one part-time, non-benefited position expected to work no more than 26 hours per week and one part-time, non-benefited, limited-term position expected to work no more than 26 hours per week. The limited-term position is approved through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension based on Town needs. Vacancies may require weekend availability. The position reports to a Grounds Maintenance Worker III and is at-will and FLSA non-exempt, making it eligible for overtime compensation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
• Six months of previous experience and/or training in grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance, irrigation system maintenance, equipment operation, and manual labor.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
• Valid Arizona driver license.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and/or ordinances.
• Skill in operating equipment, including multi- and single-deck mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, and attachments such as aerators, gannons, top dressers, vacuums, and rototillers.
• Skill in operating power tools such as chainsaws, pole saws, stump grinders, augers, jackhammers, and hedge trimmers.
• Skill in cleaning and maintaining facilities.
• Ability to work in a team environment and provide customer service.

Responsibilities

• Perform turf maintenance cultural practices using motorized equipment.
• Mow, trim, weed, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and water turf and landscape areas, and perform pruning operations.
• Perform general landscape and cleanup duties, including trash and debris removal, graffiti removal, and litter pickup.
• Perform tree maintenance using chainsaws, stump grinders, pole saws, and chippers.
