About The Position

This position maintains and improves athletic fields, city grounds, and parks. Under the direction of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, the worker performs grounds and field maintenance, prepares athletic facilities for play, operates and maintains groundskeeping equipment, assists with irrigation repairs, and performs custodial and minor repair work. The role also includes trash and debris collection, safety inspections and documentation, support for events, rentals, and recreation programs, and responding to City-declared emergencies. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Demonstrated ability to perform the job duties through related experience or specialized coursework.
Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Proficiency using small hand and power tools and basic computer operations.
Understanding of methods, materials, and practices used to maintain parks, grounds, and athletic fields.
Ability to operate and maintain maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery.
Knowledge of safety precautions and ability to implement safety protocols.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions, compose and send emails, and use basic computer skills for task documentation.
Ability to perform manual labor, work in adverse weather conditions, and handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects.
Ability to work under varied weather conditions and respond to civil defense recall if required.

Responsibilities

Mow, edge, blow, water, weed, aerate, and fertilize athletic fields, parks, and city grounds.
Measure, lay out, and line athletic fields and courts according to prescribed standards.
Prepare fields for play and inspect them for safety and maintenance needs.
Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, chain saws, tractors, and small power tools.
Conduct preventive maintenance and perform general equipment repairs.
Assist with repairs to irrigation pipes, sprinkler heads, and other system components.
Perform minor building repairs, custodial duties, and maintenance tasks in park areas and buildings as needed.
Collect trash, debris, and garbage from designated areas.
Complete safety inspections, maintain appropriate paperwork, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Work effectively with colleagues, patrons, and the general public.
Assist with events, rentals, and recreation programs as needed.
Be available to work during City-declared emergencies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
