About The Position

This position maintains and improves athletic fields, city grounds, and parks under the direction of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. The worker performs routine groundskeeping, prepares athletic fields and courts for play, operates and maintains equipment, assists with irrigation repairs, and handles minor repairs, custodial work, and trash collection. The role also includes safety inspections and documentation, supporting events, rentals, and recreation programs, and responding to City-declared emergencies. The position requires manual labor and work in varied weather conditions, with flexible hours that may include late nights, weekends, and occasional overtime.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Demonstrated ability to perform the job duties through related experience or specialized coursework.
Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Knowledge of methods, materials, and practices used to maintain parks, grounds, and athletic fields.
Ability to operate and maintain maintenance tools and equipment, including power tools and machinery.
Knowledge of safety precautions and ability to implement safety protocols during work activities.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions, compose and send emails, and use basic computer skills for task documentation.
Ability to perform manual labor, work in adverse weather conditions, and handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including late nights, weekends, and occasional overtime.
Ability to work under varied weather conditions and respond to civil defense recall if required.
Proficiency in using small hand and power tools and basic computer operations.

Responsibilities

Maintain athletic fields, parks, and city grounds through mowing, edging, blowing, watering, weeding, aerating, and fertilizing.
Measure, lay out, and line athletic fields and courts according to prescribed standards.
Prepare fields for play and inspect them for safety and maintenance needs.
Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, chain saws, tractors, and small power tools.
Conduct preventive maintenance and perform general equipment repairs.
Assist with repairs to irrigation pipes, sprinkler heads, and other irrigation system components.
Perform minor building repairs, custodial duties, and other maintenance tasks in park areas and buildings as needed.
Collect trash, debris, and garbage from designated areas.
Complete safety inspections, maintain appropriate paperwork, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Work effectively as part of a team and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, patrons, and the general public.
Assist with events, rentals, and recreation programs as needed.
Remain available to work during City-declared emergencies and respond to civil defense recall if required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
