About The Position

SpaceWorks is seeking a Senior GNC Engineer to design and develop next-generation hypersonic flight vehicles, Earth-to-orbit launch systems, human and robotic spacecraft, and space re-entry vehicles. The role focuses on guidance algorithms, navigation analysis, 6-DoF simulation and modeling, and flight testing. The engineer will work as part of a small, multidisciplinary technical team to design complex systems, contribute to existing codebases, and support modeling, simulation, analysis, and design activities for high-speed flight systems, including exo-atmospheric, endo-atmospheric, re-entry, and launch systems. The position is based in SpaceWorks’ Atlanta, Georgia facility, with telework days and flexible scheduling options available. Remote work is also considered from North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Alabama, Texas, and Colorado. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and immediately eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work or project experience in guidance, navigation, control, modeling and simulation, and flight testing.
  • Relevant work or project experience in the design or modeling of hypersonic atmospheric vehicles, Earth-to-orbit launch systems, or human and robotic spacecraft.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary design optimization using Matlab, Python, and/or Julia.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, collaborative small-business environment with ownership and autonomy.
  • U.S. citizenship and immediate eligibility to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • High-level disciplinary experience with multidisciplinary analysis and optimization of high-speed flight and/or launch vehicle design.
  • Industry experience modeling and testing flight software and hardware, including implementation of Software-in-the-loop or Hardware-in-the-loop ground tests.
  • Experience writing DO-178C-compliant flight software and working directly in compiled languages such as C++ and/or Rust.
  • Experience in relevant aerospace-oriented flight development programs, such as UAVs, missiles, or CubeSats.
  • Basic knowledge of Monte Carlo analysis, uncertainty analysis, or risk analysis.
  • Small-business experience.
  • Ability to work onsite in Atlanta, Georgia; remote work is also considered from specified states.

Responsibilities

  • Develop guidance, navigation, and control architectures based on program requirements.
  • Conduct engineering approximations for expected navigation performance.
  • Conduct actuator sizing and analysis, inertial navigation analysis, and aerodynamic vehicle modes assessment.
  • Develop and optimize trajectories using 3-DoF, 4-DoF, and 6-DoF flight software.
  • Apply closed-loop guidance laws, such as Proportional Navigation, ZEM/ZEV, or reference trajectory tracking laws.
  • Synthesize mass, aerodynamic, propulsion, and structural models and constraints.
  • Develop multi-objective functions to develop and optimize gain-scheduled tables for aerodynamically controlled vehicles.
  • Perform Monte Carlo probabilistic analyses to understand off-nominal closed-loop GNC performance.
  • Integrate simulations into a multidisciplinary design, analysis, and optimization (MDAO) environment.
  • Support modeling, simulation, analysis, and design of high-speed flight systems.
  • Contribute to existing codebases and collaborate with multidisciplinary technical staff.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage options, including medical, telemedicine, vision, dental, long-term disability, and short-term disability.
  • Health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts.
  • Flexible work schedules, including telework days, compressed workweek options, core hours, and flex time.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Parental leave.
  • Sabbatical leave.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Opportunities for bonuses.
  • Employee experience events throughout the year.
  • Employee assistance program.
