Senior GNC Software Engineer

Anduril•Waltham, MA
•$191,000 - $254,000

About The Position

Anduril’s Battlespace Awareness Command and Control Software team develops algorithms and software integrations for mission-critical command and control applications. The team focuses on path planning, route optimization, and autonomous mission execution, delivering deployed solutions in small, innovative teams. The Senior GNC Software Engineer will shape the direction of a small team and apply expertise in path planning and route optimization. The role involves prototyping and deploying algorithms for global and local path planning, trajectory optimization, and multi-agent coordination; building high-performance software for real-time C2 systems; and designing planners and decision-making systems for safe, feasible routes in dynamic and uncertain environments. The engineer will validate system performance through simulations and statistical analysis, tailor solutions to mission-critical customer needs, integrate planning technologies into the broader C2 software lifecycle, and communicate technical progress to stakeholders. Applicants are asked to provide academic transcripts during the early application process, or detailed information about relevant academic performance, coursework, and projects. Unofficial online transcripts are acceptable, and non-technical personal information may be redacted. The position requires eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in algorithm design, software development, and mathematical modeling.
  • Programming expertise in C/C++, Python, and Matlab.
  • Strong knowledge of path-planning techniques, including graph-based search such as A and D Lite, sampling-based planners such as RRT and PRM, and lattice- or grid-based planners.
  • Demonstrated experience in guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), trajectory optimization, and/or predictive modeling for vehicle dynamics and weapon-system effectiveness, such as 6-DoF simulation or intercept analysis.
  • Understanding of applied mathematics, including linear algebra, optimization, computational geometry, and graph theory.
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics, kinematic constraints, and control theory for autonomous ground, air, or maritime platforms tasked through C2 systems.
  • Familiarity with map representations, terrain reasoning, and efficient handling of large-scale geospatial and environmental data in distributed C2 architectures.
  • Background in machine learning applied to planning and decision-making, including reinforcement learning, learned heuristics, and behavior prediction.
  • Ability to engineer robust planning systems under uncertainty, for multi-agent coordination, and in complex, dynamic, contested environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across the development lifecycle, from prototyping through production-system optimization.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Define and influence the direction of a small team within the Command and Control Software organization, using subject-matter expertise in path planning and route optimization.
  • Prototype and deploy algorithms for global and local path planning, trajectory optimization, and multi-agent coordination in command and control systems.
  • Develop high-performance software for real-time C2 systems, including mission-planning tools and autonomous tasking and routing services for fleets of unmanned platforms.
  • Design and implement planners, search algorithms, and decision-making systems that generate safe, feasible, and optimal routes in dynamic, uncertain, and contested environments.
  • Analyze system performance using high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and statistical techniques to validate planner behavior across mission scenarios.
  • Customize algorithms and software for mission-critical use cases, including collaborative autonomy, asset routing, and obstacle and threat avoidance.
  • Integrate path-planning technologies into the broader command and control software stack and development lifecycle, from requirements definition through testing and optimization.
  • Translate technical progress into clear, actionable insights for colleagues, operators, end-users, and other stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
  • Top-tier benefits package for full-time employees, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
