About The Position

SpaceWorks Enterprises is seeking a Senior GNC Engineer to design and develop next-generation hypersonic flight vehicles, Earth-to-orbit launch systems, human and robotic spacecraft, and space re-entry vehicles. The role focuses on guidance algorithms, navigation analysis, 6-DoF simulation and modeling, and flight testing. The engineer will work with a small multidisciplinary technical team on complex systems and existing code bases, supporting modeling, simulation, analysis, and design for high-speed flight systems, including exo-atmospheric, endo-atmospheric, re-entry, and launch systems. The position is in-office at SpaceWorks’ Atlanta, Georgia facility, with telework days and flexible scheduling options. Remote work is also considered from North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Alabama, Texas, or Colorado. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and immediately eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work or project experience in Guidance, Navigation, Control, Modeling & Simulation, and Flight Testing.
  • Relevant work or project experience designing or modeling hypersonic atmospheric vehicles, Earth-to-orbit launch systems, or human and robotic spacecraft.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary design optimization using Matlab, Python, and/or Julia.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, collaborative environment with ownership and autonomy.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and immediately eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience or intuition modeling and/or simulating supersonic or hypersonic aircraft and/or spacecraft in a multi-DoF simulation.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small multidisciplinary technical team.
  • Open-minded, solution-oriented approach and a proactive attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • High-level disciplinary experience with multidisciplinary analysis and optimization of high-speed flight and/or launch vehicle design.
  • Industry experience modeling and testing flight software and hardware, including implementing Software-in-the-loop or Hardware-in-the-loop ground tests.
  • Experience writing DO-178C-compliant flight software and working directly in compiled languages such as C++ and/or Rust.
  • Experience in aerospace flight development programs such as UAVs, missiles, or CubeSats.
  • Basic knowledge of Monte Carlo analysis, uncertainty analysis, or risk analysis.
  • Small business experience.
  • Preference for candidates able to work onsite in Atlanta, Georgia; remote work is also open to candidates in North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Alabama, Texas, or Colorado.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Guidance, Navigation, and Control architectures based on program requirements.
  • Conduct engineering approximations for expected navigation performance.
  • Conduct actuator sizing and analysis, inertial navigation analysis, and aerodynamic vehicle modes assessment.
  • Develop and optimize trajectories using 3-DoF, 4-DoF, and 6-DoF flight software.
  • Apply closed-loop guidance laws, including Proportional Navigation, ZEM/ZEV, or reference trajectory tracking laws.
  • Synthesize mass, aerodynamic, propulsion, and structural models and constraints.
  • Develop multi-objective functions to optimize gain-scheduled tables for aerodynamically controlled vehicles.
  • Perform Monte Carlo probabilistic analyses to assess off-nominal closed-loop G/N/C performance.
  • Integrate simulations into a multidisciplinary analysis and optimization (MDAO) design environment.
  • Collaborate with a small multidisciplinary team to design complex systems and contribute to existing code bases.
  • Support modeling, simulation, analysis, and design of high-speed flight systems.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage options, including medical, telemedicine, vision, dental, long-term disability, and short-term disability.
  • Health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts.
  • Flexible work schedules, including telework days, compressed workweek options, core hours, and flex time.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Parental leave.
  • Sabbatical leave.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Opportunities for bonuses.
  • Employee experience events throughout the year.
