About The Position

We are hiring for our Senior GIS Analyst role! This opportunity is an additional position to our growing Business Strategy team. The Senior GIS Analyst is a broad role that transforms complex spatial data into actionable insights that support operational, tactical, and strategic decision-making across the District. This role provides advanced geospatial and analytical expertise to evaluate emergency service delivery and deployment strategies. The position designs and analyzes complex datasets using advanced GIS tools and statistical techniques. This research will help to inform the District's future work. Working closely with internal teams and regional partners, the Senior GIS Analyst produces clear reports, dashboards, and visualizations for various audiences. The ideal candidate combines strong technical capability with analytical judgment and effective data storytelling. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems/science, statistics, geography, or closely related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in performing complex geospatial analysis to inform strategic business decisions.
  • This experience must include data mining, evaluation, application of statistical methodologies, and visualization.
  • Technical experience in creating final products in relevant areas, including queries, reports, and presentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a public safety organization preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, creates and maintains geodatabases from internally and externally sourced data from different formats.
  • Develops and maintains data layers and spatial data structures using GIS tools and relational databases.
  • Maintains geospatial data required in the dispatch agency’s computer aided dispatch (CAD) for optimal deployment and response performance of emergency personnel.
  • Ensures data quality, suitability, and integrity by addressing anomalies, assessing outliers, and repairing data with error checking.
  • Performs geospatial analysis using appropriate statistical techniques, noting sources, patterns, trends, assumptions, and methodologies to support operational and strategic business decision-making.
  • Extracts and analyzes data from various sources to develop recommendations for short- and long-term deployment strategies.
  • Primary analysis includes incident, dispatch, deployment, performance, staffing, prevention, and risk reduction.
  • Assigns meaning to the collected information, determining the significance and implications of the findings, and develops recommendations.
  • Designs, builds, publishes and maintains multiple complex reports tailored to user-defined geospatial analysis needs using a variety of data sources and formats.
  • Uses visualization methods to produce models to clearly represent trends, correlations, and patterns in the most appropriate format that is understandable to all levels of the organization, public officials, and the public.
  • Understands the audience and in coordination with visualizations communicates results in a manner conducive to maximizing retention and comprehension.
  • Provides support and technical consultation on complex query structures, statistical functions, report design, GIS analysis, quantitative information, data integrity, and data utilization in collaboration with internal departments, and public and private agencies.
  • Fosters relationships with staff to find new ways to apply GIS analysis to improve workflows, efficiencies, and data quality.
  • Serves as the GIS representative in regional Geospatial Infrastructure Group (GIG).
  • Documents and maintains procedures, coding structures, source locations, and schedules (including automated schedules) to ensure appropriate retention of information and business continuity.
  • Utilizes GIS software to create print products in support of District needs, including annual updates and ad hoc maps for administrative facilities and emergency response crews.
  • Creates and maintains web-mapping applications, dashboards, surveys, and maps.
  • Constructs and maintains routine updates of the CAD mapping application and other mobile mapping applications utilized by emergency response personnel.

Benefits

  • The monthly salary range for this position is $8,761 - $11,850 per month.
