We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join the Subscriptions team at The Washington Post. This role spans the full application stack with a strong emphasis on frontend applications and customer-facing experiences. You will design and build modern web applications primarily using React and TypeScript, while also contributing to backend services built with Java and Node.js and the AWS infrastructure and deployment systems that support them. As a senior engineer, you will take ownership of complex technical work from design through production, contribute to architectural decisions, and help improve the quality, performance, reliability, accessibility, and maintainability of the applications our subscription products depend on. The ideal candidate brings strong frontend engineering experience, particularly with React, JavaScript, and TypeScript, along with practical experience working with backend services and APIs. You should be able to contribute to Java and Node.js applications and be comfortable with AWS, CI/CD, observability, and production operations. This is a frontend-focused role, but you should be capable of delivering effectively across the full stack. We value autonomy, initiative, strong technical judgment, clear communication, and meaningful day-to-day use of AI-assisted engineering tools, including continually finding new ways to apply AI to software development, automation, operations, and team effectiveness.
