Senior Full Stack Java Developer
About The Position
As a valued colleague on the team, the Senior Full Stack Java Developer collaborates on designing, producing, testing, or implementing moderately complex software, technology, or processes. The role also involves creating and maintaining IT architecture, large-scale data stores, and cloud-based systems. The developer independently determines customer needs, creates solution frameworks, designs and develops software solutions, implements new technology, coordinates end-to-end team tasks, and may maintain existing software. The position has one opening and can be based in Fannie Mae’s Reston, Virginia office. Employees in most roles are expected to work onsite regularly, with cadence determined by their manager; proximity within a reasonable commute is preferred unless the job is designated remote.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; a bachelor’s-level degree is required.
- Proficiency developing applications and services using Java/J2EE technologies, including Spring and Spring Boot, with a solid understanding of multithreading and design principles.
- Expertise with front-end technologies such as Angular, TypeScript, and Node.js.
- Proficiency with core AWS services and basic AWS architecture best practices, including S3, ECS Fargate, EC2, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, Route 53, Secrets Manager, Lambda, CloudWatch, AWS Step Functions, EventBridge, and API Gateway.
- Ability to use AWS service APIs, AWS CLI, and SDKs to write applications.
- Experience with relational database concepts, including SQL, joins, and normalization.
- Proficiency with continuous integration and continuous delivery using GitLab and Terraform, and build tools such as Maven, Gradle, Nexus, and SonarQube.
- Ability to use DevOps tools to build, inspect, deploy, test, and promote features.
- Exposure to unit test frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito, and API endpoint testing with tools such as Postman.
- Experience with test automation tools such as Karate, Cucumber, Playwright, or Selenium.
- Experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
- Practical knowledge of SRE and Splunk.
- Experience with Docker.
- Exposure to microservices architecture and serverless frameworks.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and security best practices in cloud environments.
- Knowledge of web services and REST, and formats such as JSON, XSL, XSD, and XSLT.
- Knowledge of relational databases, including Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Experience with development tools such as IntelliJ, Visual Studio Code, Git/Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence.

- Experience applying AI/GenAI capabilities, LLMs, and agentic workflows in software development.
- Experience with Angular, TypeScript, and Node.js.
