Sr. Full Stack Engineer, Unified Ads Platform

Unity Technologies•Montreal, QC
•$135,800 - $224,100

About The Position

Unity is hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer for its Unified Ads Platform team. The Ads team builds a global-scale advertising platform connecting advertisers, creators, and players. This role owns the service layer and APIs for advertiser and publisher entities, including campaigns and budget caps, applications and ad units, creative packs and their moderation pipeline, offerwall currency, A/B tests, and LevelPlay integration. These records are used across advertising systems for serving, billing, and reporting, so the role emphasizes stable data contracts, consistency across service boundaries, and the correctness and availability of production systems. The engineer will build and operate backend services in TypeScript and NestJS, model relational data and evolve schemas, develop event-driven integrations, and deliver user-facing experiences in React and TypeScript. The position also owns operation of services on Kubernetes and their service-level objectives, drives observability and quality, and sets engineering standards through design and code reviews while mentoring other engineers.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience building and operating production software, with depth in backend services and modern frontend development.
  • Advanced TypeScript skills and experience with NestJS or a comparable modular Node.js backend framework using dependency injection and modules.
  • Strong data modeling and SQL skills, including schema design, migrations, performance optimization at scale, and API versioning judgment.
  • Experience safely changing data consumed by other teams.
  • Experience with event-driven systems such as Kafka, Pub/Sub, or similar, and understanding of delivery semantics, event ordering, idempotency, and cross-system inconsistencies.
  • Advanced React skills, including component design, state management, and performance for data-intensive interfaces.
  • Experience operating cloud-native, containerized services on Kubernetes, including deployment, scaling, monitoring, incident response, and on-call responsibilities.
  • A strong sense of ownership focused on correctness, observability, and long-term maintainability, supported by disciplined testing, code review, and accessibility practices.
  • Sufficient English proficiency for frequent professional verbal and written communication with colleagues and partners worldwide.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Go.
  • Background in advertising, attribution, billing, or monetization systems.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience, including Kubernetes-native resource management, Terraform, or service mesh.
  • Familiarity with OpenTelemetry and distributed tracing in production.
  • Experience with design systems or configuration-driven UI frameworks.
  • Experience with cross-team technical alignment or guild-style quality initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate services on the TypeScript platform using NestJS, owning APIs and data contracts relied on by downstream advertising systems.
  • Model entity data for scale and change, including relational schema design, database migrations, and schema evolution for data used in serving, billing, and reporting.
  • Design and build event-driven integrations with Kafka and Google Cloud Pub/Sub, using patterns such as transactional outbox and idempotent consumers to maintain consistency across services.
  • Build user-facing interfaces in React and TypeScript that turn entity and performance data into workflows for publishers and advertisers.
  • Operate services on Kubernetes, manage cloud infrastructure declared alongside service code, and take ownership of service-level objectives.
  • Improve platform observability and quality through distributed tracing, metrics, and testing frameworks.
  • Establish and uphold service development standards through design and code reviews, and mentor engineers.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health, life, and disability insurance.
  • Commuter subsidy.
  • Employee stock ownership.
  • Competitive retirement or pension plans.
  • Generous vacation and personal days.
  • Leave and family-care programs supporting new parents.
  • Office snacks.
  • Mental health and wellbeing programs and support.
  • Employee Resource Groups.
  • Global Employee Assistance Program.
  • Training and development programs.
  • Volunteering and donation-matching program.
  • The role may be eligible for equity awards and company incentive plans, such as annual discretionary bonuses or sales commissions.
