Manta Cares•San Francisco, CA
•$170,000 - $230,000

About The Position

Manta Cares is a digital health company founded and led by cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and oncologists. Its AI patient platform supports cancer patients and their families through the many decisions they face, and the company partners with life sciences companies and healthcare systems. The Senior Full-Stack Engineer is a senior individual contributor on a small engineering team. The role focuses on improving Hope, Manta Cares’ AI companion, and the Notebook, where patients keep notes and medical documents and track appointments and symptoms. The engineer will take features from rough specifications through implementation and release across the stack, collaborating closely with product, design, and clinical teams. The position reports to the Head of Product Development. The work includes connecting Hope and the Notebook, building and evaluating production LLM features, evolving conversation state and data models, and contributing to shared backend systems and engineering practices. The team values thoughtful architecture, product quality, experimentation, and engineers who contribute across the stack.

Responsibilities

  • Connect Hope AI and the patient Notebook so Hope can help patients manage information related to their cancer journey.
  • Build new LLM features, improve Hope’s answers, roll out model upgrades, and create evaluations that detect regressions.
  • Build persistent shared conversation state and modernize Postgres migrations and database tooling.
  • Contribute to Hope’s core AI agent, code review, engineering standards, and agentic development tools and patterns.
  • Strengthen shared backend systems, including GitOps infrastructure, database migrations, authentication, jobs, and pipelines.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and clinical teams to take ambiguous requirements through to shipped product.
