About The Position

Nordhealth is hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer for the Treat team in Provet, its veterinary practice management software. Treat owns the Patient Care Experience: consultations and the work vets do while treating patients. This highly used, data-heavy part of the product has a direct impact on the usability and performance of Provet for veterinary professionals. The role focuses primarily on migrating the experience to a new frontend built with Vue 3, TypeScript, Nuxt, and Nordhealth’s in-house Nord design system, while keeping the legacy Django-rendered interface—which includes React and Vue 2 components—healthy until pages are migrated. The engineer will also build or adjust Django backend components such as API endpoints, queries, and business logic needed to deliver their features. The engineer acts as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for their initiatives, shaping ideas into shipped product, making trade-offs, and communicating with teammates, product partners, and senior leadership. AI coding agents are expected to be part of daily development, with the engineer helping improve the codebase, tooling, and guardrails so agents can contribute safely and effectively. This is a cross-functional role involving product managers, designers, backend engineers, and veterinary domain experts. It includes building accessible and responsive interfaces, addressing performance challenges in data-heavy pages, maintaining code quality through testing and reviews, mentoring less experienced engineers, and contributing to development processes, tooling, and infrastructure.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in software development.
  • Expertise in Vue, including Vue 3 and Composition API, and TypeScript; experience with large-scale JavaScript codebases.
  • Strong software development fundamentals.
  • Working experience with Python and Django, or demonstrated willingness to build backend components for owned features.
  • Deep, daily experience orchestrating AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex, including delegating and reviewing substantial work, establishing context and guardrails for autonomous work, and understanding their strengths and limitations.
  • Strong HTML and CSS fundamentals and experience building accessible interfaces.
  • Experience building data-heavy, interactive UIs where performance matters.
  • Experience with automated frontend testing, including unit, component, and end-to-end testing.
  • Full proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a fast-growing, global SaaS company.
  • Experience incrementally migrating a legacy frontend without disrupting users.
  • Experience with Nuxt, React, or jQuery-era code.
  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and ship robust, fast, user-friendly frontend solutions for Provet’s Patient Care Experience using the new Vue 3/Nuxt frontend and, when needed, the legacy UI.
  • Build backend components needed by features, including Django views, JSON:API endpoints, queries, and business logic, with corresponding tests.
  • Own initiatives as the DRI, taking ideas from early definition through delivery, making trade-offs, and keeping stakeholders informed, including senior leadership.
  • Use AI coding agents as a core part of daily work; improve codebase context, tooling, and guardrails so agents can work autonomously and safely; orchestrate agents across delivery work and assess their impact on quality and throughput.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and veterinary domain experts to shape the product.
  • Assess the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and optimize speed and responsiveness on pages that render hundreds of items.
  • Write maintainable, high-quality code; contribute to code reviews and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across the stack, including browser performance and slow database queries.
  • Stay current with frontend and AI tooling and advocate for useful adoption.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in development processes, tooling, and infrastructure.
  • Help migrate legacy frontend pages and components incrementally while maintaining a consistent UI/UX with the Nord design system and avoiding disruption to users.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Learning and professional growth opportunities.
  • Tools needed for the role.
  • Frequent company events and colleagues from around the world.
  • Opportunity to work in a meaningful industry at a fast-growing, global company focused on digital healthcare.
