True Anomaly•Washington, DC
•$135,000 - $195,000•Hybrid

About The Position

True Anomaly is seeking a senior 3D developer with real-time rendering expertise to join its growing creative team. The role owns the browser-based visual layer for the common operating picture and 3D information, including orbits, spacecraft, sensor volumes, and live telemetry. The primary technologies are React and three.js, though relevant experience in other real-time 3D environments such as Unity, Unreal, or Babylon.js may also be considered. Working directly with the Creative Director, the engineer will help define the look and feel of mission-critical space software. The work spans rapid prototypes and production views used by operators, with an emphasis on visual quality, reliable performance, and rendering live mission data in the browser.

Requirements

  • Strong React and TypeScript skills.
  • Deep three.js or react-three-fiber experience.
  • Solid WebGL fundamentals and comfort with GLSL.
  • A strong instinct for performance.
  • A strong visual eye and the ability to assess work for both functionality and how it looks and feels.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently on a lean team.
  • Ability to take ownership of work from prototype to production.

Nice To Haves

  • Transferable real-time 3D experience with Unity, Unreal, or Babylon.js.
  • Background in games, real-time data visualization, creative technology, or interactive agencies.
  • Defense and space knowledge.
  • Fluency with a 3D pipeline, including Blender, glTF, and texture and geometry budgets.
  • Examples of shipped apps, demos, or experiments.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own the React and three.js rendering layer, including the 3D viewport and controls that form the common operating picture.
  • Translate design intent into production front-end components, interactions, motion, and polished interface details.
  • Work with data and platform engineers to render live telemetry and mission data at workable frame rates.
  • Own 3D scene craft, including renderers, materials and shaders, lighting, camera behavior, and level of detail.
  • Prototype visual and interaction concepts quickly to support testing and iteration.
  • Own work end to end, from prototype through production, including polish, performance, and technical problem-solving.
  • Contribute to data visualization and standard front-end work in addition to real-time 3D.

Benefits

  • 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, with HSA/HRA options.
  • Flexible Time Off for exempt employees.
  • Accrued PTO of up to 25 days for non-exempt employees.
  • 12 paid holidays.
