About The Position

Sedgwick is hiring a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer for a remote role open to U.S.-based candidates. The engineer owns a build stream end to end within a pod, from shaping the problem with the Principal through implementation, production operation, and measurement of business outcomes. The role designs, builds, and operates production Generative AI agents, workflows, and applications, and develops full-stack software using Python and React. The position owns deployment and operation on AWS, including infrastructure as code with Terraform and CI/CD with GitHub Actions. It implements evaluation, observability, human-in-the-loop controls, enterprise security, auditability, PHI handling, and reliability. The engineer integrates AI services with enterprise and legacy systems using approved patterns and versioned contracts, may steward a shared capability, and may co-develop with vendor delivery teams. The engineer works directly with examiners, nurse reviewers, and operations staff to turn observed work into scoped services, workflows, and UI changes. The role also mentors Junior AI Engineers, troubleshoots production systems, leads root cause analysis and performance optimization, and recommends improvements to architecture, platform capabilities, and engineering processes. Travel is required as needed, including on-site work with claims or Managed Care operations and vendor teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Six or more years of software engineering experience, including at least three years shipping production Generative AI agents, workflows, or applications with evaluation, failure handling, and a human review loop, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating production workloads on AWS; cloud certification without production ownership is not sufficient.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, React, GitHub Actions, and Terraform, including ownership of CI/CD and infrastructure rather than only editing templates.
  • Strong full-stack engineering skills in Python and React and solid working knowledge of SQL, REST APIs, and service design.
  • Hands-on AWS experience building, deploying, and operating production services, including networking, identity, and operational concerns for regulated environments.
  • Hands-on GitHub Actions and Terraform experience owning pipelines and infrastructure as code, including review, drift, and recovery.
  • Production expertise in Generative AI agents, workflows, and applications, including tool use, orchestration, evaluation, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
  • Ability to implement services in alignment with enterprise architecture, governance, PHI handling, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work directly with examiners or operations staff to scope work and to operate comfortably as the only engineer in the room.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced Transformation Office, including pairing with vendor engineers when required.
  • Strong mentoring, collaboration, and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience embedding with business users or a vendor delivery team to co-develop rather than receiving a completed specification.
  • Experience in insurance, claims, healthcare, or another heavily regulated operational domain.
  • Experience with machine learning, model fine-tuning, and/or graph databases such as Neo4j.
  • Experience with PydanticAI or an equivalent agent framework, agent observability, and AI Ops/LLMOps.

Responsibilities

  • Own a build stream end to end within a pod, from problem shaping through implementation, production operation, and instrumentation of business outcomes.
  • Design, build, and operate production Generative AI agents, workflows, and applications, including orchestration, tool execution, state management, and enterprise-system interactions.
  • Develop full-stack software in Python and React, including services and user-facing interfaces.
  • Own AWS deployment and operations, using Terraform for infrastructure as code and GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
  • Implement AI evaluation, observability, and human-in-the-loop controls, including provenance, confirmation for consequential claims actions, and evidence supporting increased autonomy.
  • Implement authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, and error handling to meet enterprise security, auditability, PHI, and reliability requirements.
  • Integrate AI services with enterprise and legacy systems, including APIs, data platforms, and event streams, using approved patterns and versioned contracts.
  • Steward an assigned shared capability and block duplicate builds in other pods when appropriate.
  • Co-develop with vendor delivery teams when required, using shared repositories in Sedgwick accounts and a shared definition of done.
  • Work with examiners, nurse reviewers, and operations staff to translate observed work into scoped services, workflows, and UI changes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Junior AI Engineers and promote engineering standards, code quality, and operational excellence.
  • Troubleshoot production AI services and lead root cause analysis and optimization of latency, throughput, cost, correctness, and reliability.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to architecture, platform capabilities, and engineering processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and travel as required.
