Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer (GenAI, AWS)

ProvectusNorth Carolina, WV

About The Position

Provectus is a Premier AWS partner and an Anthropic Strategic Partner focused on applied AI, helping enterprises leverage AI technologies like Claude and agentic systems to achieve measurable business outcomes. The company operates across North America, LATAM, and EMEA, partnering with clients globally in the Financial Services & Insurance and Healthcare & Life Sciences sectors. Provectus utilizes five pre-built AI Blueprints (Submission Flow, Portfolio Lens, Asset Flow, Revenue Flow, and Evidence Lens) to rebuild critical business processes. A key aspect of their approach is embedding engineers and leaders as Forward Deployed Engineers (FDE) and Forward Deployed Executives (FDX) directly within client operations. These individuals learn the work, ship the system, and own the outcome. The team possesses extensive AWS certifications and is Claude Code certified, actively involved in Anthropic's Agentic SDLC program and AI Blueprints. The Forward Deployed AI Engineer role emphasizes a unique methodology where engineers first take on the operator's role to understand the job's constraints from the inside before automating it. This contrasts with traditional approaches that often fail due to a lack of deep user understanding. The FDE works alongside the operator and a Forward Deployed Executive to rebuild the function from first principles. The role is defined by being embedded within the customer's team, focusing on real operational problems rather than siloed deliverables, and operating autonomously with ownership of the method. Provectus provides industry blueprints as a starting point, and learnings from field engagements are fed back into these systems. Success is measured by the impact on the Business Unit's key metrics, not by hours or scope delivered. This position is ideal for experienced engineers who have held leadership roles (founder, CTO, staff engineer) and wish to remain hands-on while owning the outcome, often being the most senior technical person in the room and responsible for shipping the product.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software development experience, with a significant portion focused on writing production code for which you were accountable.
  • Currently hands-on with coding and intend to remain so.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn domains quickly.
  • Experience shipping GenAI/LLM systems to production (not just demos or notebooks).
  • Experience building or owning an eval suite for a non-deterministic system.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, enabling productivity in unfamiliar codebases or languages.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript; depth is valued over breadth of stack.
  • Cloud-native delivery experience on AWS (GCP/Azure are a plus), including containers, Kubernetes/ECS, IaC, CI/CD, and operational considerations.
  • Credibility with senior stakeholders.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ownership.
  • Solid AI/ML foundations.
  • Strong hands-on production experience with Claude Code/Cowork.
  • Fluent English, written and spoken.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a founder, CTO, or engineering leader who has returned to individual contribution.
  • Deep expertise in financial services, insurance, healthcare, or asset management.
  • Experience in consulting, professional services, or other embedded customer-facing delivery roles.
  • Data platform expertise: data lakes, warehouses, streaming and real-time analytics, data mesh, data contracts, governance, and data quality.
  • Experience with MLOps and classical ML tools like PyTorch, SageMaker, MLflow.
  • Experience with fine-tuning, distillation, or inference/serving optimization.
  • Experience with graph databases (Neo4j, AWS Neptune).
  • Deep IaC experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
  • Open-source contributions or public writing on applied AI.

Responsibilities

  • Take the operator's seat for several weeks, performing the actual job (e.g., claims processing, underwriting, revenue-cycle work) before writing any code.
  • Learn business domains quickly and become conversant in unfamiliar business functions.
  • Ship GenAI/LLM systems to production, handling complexities beyond the prototyping stage.
  • Build or own an evaluation suite for non-deterministic systems and articulate the metrics and rationale.
  • Deliver cloud-native solutions on AWS, including containers, Kubernetes/ECS, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Engage in redesign conversations with Business Unit heads and scoping conversations with CTOs.
  • Manage ambiguity and take ownership of engagements that are intentionally underspecified.
  • Apply solid AI/ML foundations to understand model failure modes.
  • Gain hands-on production experience with Claude Code/Cowork.
  • Communicate effectively in fluent English, both written and spoken.

Benefits

  • Frontier delivery work across Cowork Activation, Agentic SDLC, and Blueprint Activations in Financial Services and Healthcare
  • Opportunity to shape how leading enterprises adopt AI, from strategy through first deployment
  • A forward-deployed model working in small, senior teams alongside Principal Architects and Forward Deployed Engineers
  • A growing AI delivery practice where you help build the tooling and frameworks, not just use them
  • Remote-friendly culture
