About The Position

This role is part of Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products to support transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. The Senior Fluid and Propulsion Design Engineer will design, develop, release, and support engineering artifacts throughout the hardware lifecycle for the MK2 Crew Lander propulsion system. The work encompasses fluid and propulsion system design from conceptual and detailed design through component development, fabrication, assembly, verification, testing, and operations. The engineer will own CAD models and coordinate analysis and manufacturing development efforts, working closely with manufacturing and operations to apply design-for-manufacturability and cost principles. The role also includes mentoring entry-level engineers and conducting technical peer reviews.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience designing tubes, fluid components, secondary structure, or similar hardware.
  • 5+ years of experience generating 3D models and drawings in Creo for complex fluid hardware.
  • Experience releasing model-based designs.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor entry-level engineers.
  • Experience performing structural hand calculations and analysis with tools such as ANSYS.
  • Experience interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Expertise in ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerance.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of collaboration and inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team of engineers and drafters to maintain alignment on large-scale engineering artifact release.
  • Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods for COPVs, fluid components, and tubes.
  • Experience designing propulsion test fixtures and tooling.
  • Experience with hypergol or helium systems.
  • Experience working on human-rated vehicles.
  • Experience with static and non-linear FEA analysis using ANSYS.
  • Advanced engineering degree.
