About The Position

Waukesha County is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and service-focused Senior Fiscal Specialist to support the Treasurer’s Office in a variety of accounting, property tax, reporting, reconciliation, and customer service functions. This position is a strong opportunity for someone with bookkeeping, accounting, financial, municipal, banking, or related experience who is interested in building specialized expertise in county treasury operations. The ideal candidate will have the ability and willingness to learn Wisconsin property tax collection processes, tax settlements, lottery credit records, in-rem foreclosure support, unclaimed funds reporting, and statutory reporting requirements. The role also provides meaningful professional development and may serve as a pathway for future promotional opportunities within the Treasurer’s Office, Finance, or other related Waukesha County operations as opportunities arise.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Five years of post high school work experience in finance or accounting.
  • Ability to learn and apply Wisconsin State Statutes related to county treasury and tax collection functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, data analysis, and pivot tables.
  • Experience with Workday or similar financial management systems.
  • Experience using technology to improve accuracy, efficiency, or workflow.
  • Interest in or openness to using artificial intelligence tools appropriately in a government office environment.
  • Real estate, title, property records, or property tax experience.
  • Governmental accounting experience.
  • Municipal treasurer, deputy treasurer, municipal clerk, or deputy clerk experience.
  • Banking, financial, cash management, or accounting experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to reconcile accounts, review financial activity, and identify discrepancies.
