Senior Finance Manager

Saronic Technologies•Austin, TX

About The Position

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Senior Finance Manager to lead finance for its shipbuilding products. The role owns the full product P&L and the economics of moving early-stage IRAD investments into funded programs. The Senior Finance Manager will build the financial models, operating cadence, controls, processes, and reporting used to run these products, and serve as a trusted financial advisor to product leadership. This is a builder’s role in a fast-growing company, requiring comfort with limited structure, establishing processes from scratch, and owning decisions from business case through program execution. The role oversees product-line planning and performance, IRAD investment cases and funding gates, program financial management, capital and working-capital planning, and leadership and board-level financial reporting. It also hires and leads the finance team supporting the product and partners with Finance Operations, Accounting, Engineering, Program Management, manufacturing finance, and corporate finance leadership.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including 3+ years owning a full P&L for a business unit, product line, or program portfolio.
  • People leadership experience, including hiring, developing, and managing finance professionals and building a finance team as the business scales.
  • Hands-on experience taking IRAD or internally funded development through to funded contracts or programs.
  • Proven experience serving as financial advisor to a GM, business unit leader, or program executive.
  • Fluency in defense or government contracting, including FAR/DFARS, Cost Accounting Standards, indirect rate structures, cost-plus versus fixed-price versus OTA economics, and audit readiness.
  • Program finance experience with EAC, earned value, milestone and progress billing, and multi-year cash forecasting on long-cycle hardware.
  • Hardware or manufacturing finance experience.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including the ability to build models directly and present them to executives and customers.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity, build processes from scratch, think in a structured way, and prioritize effectively in a fast-moving environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at a defense technology startup or scale-up, building finance processes from scratch and operating without a mature back office.
  • Exposure to Other Transaction Authority (OTA) and rapid-prototyping contract vehicles.
  • Familiarity with ERP and planning tools such as NetSuite and Foundry.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full P&L for shipbuilding defense technology product lines, including revenue, cost of sales, IRAD spend, overhead allocation, contribution margin, and cash.
  • Own product-line forecasts, annual plans, and long-range plans, and explain performance against them.
  • Build and maintain KPIs and the monthly operating review used by leadership to run the business.
  • Develop business cases for IRAD efforts, including required investment, the path to a funded program, win probability, expected margin, and payback.
  • Track IRAD burn against technical milestones and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Partner with Engineering and Program Management to define funding gates and financial milestones for moving IRAD efforts into funded programs.
  • Serve as senior finance partner to product-line leaders and represent the product in corporate planning, capital allocation, and board-level reporting.
  • Analyze and present trade-offs involving make-versus-buy decisions, capacity and capital investment, hiring pace, and bid/no-bid decisions.
  • Translate program execution and portfolio performance into clear leadership recommendations.
  • Establish and own estimate-at-completion (EAC) reviews, earned value, and milestone and progress billing on funded programs.
  • Own program risk and opportunity tracking and the resulting margin story.
  • Own program cost baselines and change control, including award budgets, re-baselines, scope changes, and current, defensible estimates to complete.
  • Own product capital planning for tooling, facilities, and test assets, and defend capital requests with finance leadership.
  • Manage working capital for long-cycle builds, including coordination with manufacturing finance, progress-payment timing, and cash forecasting.
  • Partner with Accounting on program setup, rate structures, and cost allocation.
  • Hire, develop, and lead the product finance team as the business scales.
  • Set standards for analysis, forecasting, and financial communication across the team and broader product organization.
  • Build the systems, processes, and reporting needed by the product in partnership with Finance Operations and Accounting.
