About The Position

Impossible Metals Canada is seeking an experienced, safety-conscious Senior Field Electronics Technician to support the mobilization, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of their Eureka Collection System autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and associated equipment. This is a hands-on role requiring collaboration with marine operations, engineering, production, technical writing, and project management to ensure AUV systems are safe, reliable, maintainable, and ready for deployment. The ideal candidate is energized by complex marine technology, comfortable in both workshop and offshore environments, and motivated by building and supporting robotic systems in challenging conditions.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma specializing in underwater vehicles, engineering technology, electronics technology, marine technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of marine technology experience in offshore, subsea, or remote operations.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing subsea robotic systems such as ROVs, AUVs, or towed vehicles.
  • Strong safety-first mindset across offshore, workshop, dockside, and office environments.
  • Experience with TCP/IP networking, serial communication protocols, and fibre optics.
  • Aptitude for handling, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic, fibre-optic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and produce electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
  • Experience using and maintaining common electrical test and production tools, including wire strippers, crimpers, soldering stations, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
  • Experience safely using common hand and power tools, including impact drivers, drill presses, power drills, angle grinders, rotary tools, jig saws, and band saws.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with teammates and support junior and intermediate technicians.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team during field deployments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to independently prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to obtain relevant offshore and industrial safety certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting AUV, ROV, subsea robotics, offshore survey, marine research, or marine technology operations.
  • Experience with vessel mobilization, sea acceptance testing, product demonstrations, or client-facing field operations.
  • Experience creating or contributing to operator manuals, maintenance guides, integration guides, or technical training materials.
  • Experience supporting client operator/maintainer training.
  • Experience with PCB-level troubleshooting, system integration, or production testing.
  • Experience working in a small, high-growth technology company.
  • Familiarity with reliability, maintainability, maintenance planning, and field service considerations.
  • Existing offshore or industrial safety certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting field AUV operations, including system mobilization, mission planning, pre-dive checks, launch and recovery procedures, post-dive maintenance, repairs, demobilization, and reporting.
  • Following and promoting safe work practices across dockside, nearshore, offshore, office, workshop, and electronics lab environments.
  • Supporting product demonstrations, field testing, product delivery, vessel integration, sea acceptance testing, and client operator/maintainer training.
  • Generating daily progress reports, post-deployment reports, and other operational documentation following field activities.
  • Assisting with assembly, integration, and testing of advanced autonomous underwater vehicle systems and associated third-party payloads.
  • Troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electronic, fibre-optic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems from the PCB level through to fully assembled AUV systems.
  • Providing technical input to engineering teams to support design updates, reliability improvements, maintainability, and maintenance scheduling.
  • Supporting the creation and upkeep of system documentation, including operator manuals, integration guides, maintenance guides, and training materials.
  • Assisting project managers with work scope, project execution, and mobilization/demobilization planning.
  • Collaborating with and supporting junior and intermediate technicians during workshop activities and field deployments.
