About The Position

Kearney & Company is seeking a Senior Federal Accounting Analyst to join their hybrid team supporting a large Federal government agency. The ideal candidate will be located in the greater DC metro area and able to travel to the client facility in White Oak, Maryland twice a week. This role involves executing day-to-day Federal accounting research, analysis, and communication, performing research in financial reporting, the United States Standard General Ledger (USSGL), and accounting treatment/posting logic. The analyst will communicate accounting concepts and apply them to client situations, update Microsoft Excel templates with formulas and Macros for automation, and communicate project task status to the Team Lead and client. Strong customer service skills are essential for handling occasional high-pressure situations with short deadlines. Effective writing and communication skills are needed for drafting PowerPoints, emails, and whitepapers to explain complex accounting scenarios and remediation strategies. The role also includes working with business process owners to update policies and Standard Operating Procedures, serving as a liaison between business process owners, developers, and the client to document and translate business needs into automated solutions, and conducting user acceptance testing with documented feedback.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree from an accredited college/university in Accounting or related field
• Minimum of 2.5 years of experience
• Significant experience using Microsoft Excel formulas (e.g., V and XLookups, If statements)
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Public Trust (Tier 4) clearance (requires US Citizenship)
• Ability to travel to the client site twice a week

Nice To Haves

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
• Experience with Federal financial reporting, including: Experience researching, analyzing, and/or utilizing the USSGL
• Experience researching and applying FASAB, OMB, and Treasury requirements including OMB Circular A-11, OMB Circular A-136, and/or the Treasury Financial Manual (TFM)
• Experience with Federal accounting treatment / posting logic
• Experience with Budgetary accounting
• Experience performing tie-point analysis
• Experience with Financial Statement Analysis
• Experience with SharePoint and with Microsoft Excel Macros
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI

Responsibilities

• Executing day-to-day Federal accounting-related research, analysis, and communication at the direction of the Kearney & Company Team Lead and/or client
• Performing research in the areas of financial reporting, the United States Standard General Ledger (USSGL), and accounting treatment/posting logic
• Communicating an understanding of accounting concepts and applying them to client situations
• Updating Microsoft Excel templates with formulas and Macros to facilitate process automation
• Communicating status of project-related tasks to Team Lead and client
• Demonstrating strong customer service skills and the ability to work with clients in occasional high-pressure situations with short deadlines
• Demonstrating effective writing and communication skills for drafting communication artifacts (e.g., PowerPoints, emails, whitepapers) to explain complicated accounting scenarios and their impacts, and recommended remediation strategies
• Working with business process owners to update policies and Standard Operating Procedures
• Serving as a liaison between business process owners, developers, and the client to help document, communicate, and translate manual business process needs and outcomes into automated solutions
• Conduct user acceptance testing and provide documented feedback to stakeholders
