About The Position

This position is a key member of the water accounting team, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager of the water company. This position plays a critical role in collaborating with water subsidiaries as well as company’s parent company’s Financial Reporting and Consolidation teams to ensure high-quality internal and external financial reports. The position will participate in all accounting functions including preparation of monthly journal entries, intercompany transactions, and monthly reconciliations.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge and experience in applying U.S. GAAP principles are required.
• Strong analytical skills are required, including the ability to critically think and apply technical accounting knowledge to business requirements, including understanding the impacts of decisions made.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Requires strong attention to detail while keeping the big picture in mind.
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively with limited supervision.
• Requires outstanding ethical standards and values consistent with those of the Company.
• Proven ability to work cross-functionally across an organization and in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA certificate are preferred.
• Public accounting experience is preferred.
• Experience in a utility operation and knowledge of standard utility accounting and public utility reporting and filing requirements desired but not required.
• Experience using SAP, QuickBooks, or another general ledger or other financial software system is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Key contributor in monthly closing process: Preparing journal entries, performing reconciliations and working closely with the water subsidiaries in assisting them with their closing processes.
• Assist with intercompany reconciliations.
• Completes internal control procedures to ensure compliance with SOX requirements.
• Demonstrates appropriate leadership and decision-making behaviors.
• Maintain technical accounting knowledge and personal skill development.
• Lead, contribute to, or participate in ad hoc projects as required.
• Support the Company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.
