About The Position

The Senior Facilities Technician (SFT) reports to the Regional Facilities Manager and serves as the primary facilities operations across multiple assigned KIPP Texas campuses. This role is responsible for maintaining all building systems, managing campus buildings and grounds across all trade areas, and ensuring the campus meets KIPP Texas's cleaning, maintenance, safety, and compliance standards at all times. The SFT directly supervises Facilities Technicians at the assigned campus, including full staffing authority, manages the campus facilities maintenance budget, and serves as the primary technical escalation resource for all facility issues. This role requires 24/7 on-call availability for campus facility emergencies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related trade; high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing systems required; technical knowledge of building systems and repair operations required.
  • Proficiency in facilities work order management software preferred; basic Microsoft Outlook proficiency required.
  • Reliable transportation required; ability to travel between campuses and pick up supplies as needed.
  • Flexibility in work schedule required; 24/7 on-call availability for campus facility emergencies.

  • Deep technical expertise across building systems and trade areas — HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance — with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex facility issues independently.
  • Proven supervisory skills; able to direct, develop, and hold accountable a team of Maintenance Technicians in a fast-paced, multi-priority environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; able to manage multiple concurrent work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and facility projects simultaneously.
  • Skilled at managing contractor and vendor relationships: ensuring quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness of outsourced work.
  • Clear and professional communicator; able to coordinate effectively with campus administrators, school operations staff, contractors, and statewide Facilities leadership.
  • Proactive problem-solver; able to anticipate facility issues, conduct effective inspections, and resolve problems before they escalate.
  • Strong ownership orientation: takes pride in campus facility quality and holds high standards for safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness.
  • The person in this position needs to be able to move about inside and outside the school throughout the workday.
  • The candidate is expected to attend conferences, meetings and training sessions both virtually and in person within the Region.
  • Reliable transportation is needed for travel between campuses
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade licensure or certification strongly preferred given the building system management and safety compliance scope of this role.
  • Experience in a supervisory or lead technician role preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred given the multilingual nature of campus staff and school communities served.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and maintains all campus building systems, including burglar and fire alarm systems, elevators, HVAC, irrigation, and all associated mechanical and electrical systems, to established safety, compliance, and performance standards.
  • Maintains campus buildings and grounds across all trade areas, including carpentry, painting, pest control, lawn care, plumbing, and electrical systems, to established quality and safety standards.
  • Executes work orders to high standards of quality and timeliness; communicates with school staff and departments to coordinate work order completion and campus event setup.
  • Leads the execution of the preventive maintenance schedule for all campus building systems; assists with planning and scheduling in coordination with the Regional Facilities Manager.
  • Conducts regular campus inspections to proactively identify and resolve potential facility issues before they escalate; responds to on-call facility emergencies during and outside operating hours.
  • Builds and manages relationships with external contractors and service providers, including HVAC, lawn care, pest control, and other trade vendors, ensuring timely, quality completion of contracted work.
  • Manages the campus facilities maintenance budget and associated procurement card, tracking expenditures and ensuring all purchases remain within approved parameters.
  • Manages all maintenance contractors and service providers at the assigned campus, coordinating scheduling, scope, and quality of third-party work.
  • Directly supervises Maintenance Technicians at the assigned campus; manages full staffing lifecycle including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, day-to-day direction, performance management, and termination decisions.
  • Serves as the primary technical escalation resource for complex or unresolved issues beyond the Maintenance Technician team's scope; resolves or coordinates resolution of all escalated campus facility issues.
  • Participates in professional development and training sessions to maintain current knowledge of facilities maintenance best practices, building systems, and compliance requirements.
