About The Position

The Sr T&D Estimator ensures competitiveness, profitability, and growth while maintaining and growing relationships with internal and external customers and clients. The T&D Sr Estimator is responsible for preparing complete cost estimates, as well as responses to Requests for Proposals for large transmission, distribution and substation construction projects. The Sr T&D Estimator is responsible for the mentoring and training of Estimators. Established in 1977, Great Southwestern Construction, Inc. Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of estimating experience
  • Proven ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include drawings, proposals and other relevant documents
  • Working knowledge of electrical materials and methods of installation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Proven ability to prepare work plans for transmission, substation, & distribution scopes of work
  • Advanced knowledge of construction means & methods for transmission, substation, & distribution scopes of work, including materials and subcontracted scopes of work
  • Risk identification & mitigation planning for estimate preparation
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, and written
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player
  • Self-driven with the ability to stay on-task for extended periods of time while working independently

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar field; relevant experience considered in lieu of degree

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete labor and material cost estimates
  • Outline and prepare responses to request for proposals
  • Complete cost estimates for assigned projects, with definable work tasks for transmission, distribution and substation projects
  • Perform field take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation
  • Prepare comprehensive bid submittals, including work plans, schedules, clarifications, etc.
  • Develop strategies for being awarded projects
  • Help maintain and develop estimating database
  • Develop relationships with clients
  • Assist other members of the Estimating team with cost estimates and bid package preparation
  • Contribute to/review and evaluate Estimating staff performance
  • Compare various project documents for accuracy and consistency
  • Perform operational contract redlines and coordinate with the legal department, and understand how contractual items affect the bid/work
  • Determine constructability requirements via field walk-downs with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel
  • Attend on site pre-bid meeting and perform job site visits
  • Field job walks and pre-bid meeting may require travel/overnight stays
  • Lead estimate review process with internal and external stake holders
  • Coordinate with Project Management
  • Prepare and submit change orders
  • Assist construction personnel throughout the project lifecycle in tracking and understanding of cost estimates
  • Follow-up at the end of projects to close any loops in the estimating process to include invoicing and cost tracking
  • Communicate with field supervision regarding project status, changes, etc.
  • Ensure profitability and growth
  • Evaluate possible areas for potential value engineering cost savings and produce backup
  • Other duties as assigned
